Hey, everyone. So I'm getting an 02 GT vert pretty soon, and my friend just got a 04 Subaru WRX. I know he's going to want to race. I think his WRX(non-STi) is at about 270HP, it must have some mods cuz I know they only run about 227HP stock. What do guys think I'm going to need to do to my stang to be able to beat it? . . . Thanks for your help.

Don't know a thing about scooby-doo's, but these are the normal first mods.
Gears, 4:10's or 3:73's Ram Air Intake, or Cold Air Intake Prob. a Tuner for the gears (to correct the speedo) |

If his suby is all stock, you dont need anything to beat it...190ish WHP wont be a problem to beat. He might hole shot you off the line but you will catch back up very quickly. If he's got bolt-ons like exhaust and an intake..you still wont have a problem. The imprezza WRX's are junk compaired to the WRX Sti...those are the ones you gotta worry about.

If he's got 270 to the wheels I dont think you can pull off the win with a stock GT. He's 300+ lbs lighter also. I'd question where this 270 HP number came from and if its real or just BS.
Get some gears 4.10's

if he knows how to launch that boobaroo I'm pretty sure he'll have your lunch. 270whp and lighter weight and AWD... you'll never beat his launch and he'll still eat you on power.

A stock WRX would beat a stock vert especially an automatic if it was stock. If he has 270hp you are in trouble unless you want to spend some $$.

He's not that great of a driver and it is 270hp, but it's not 270whp. Should gears do the trick? About how much do 4.10 gears + install cost?

If it's claimed to have 270 at the crank...then he's right at about 200WHP, so you wont have a problem beating him seeing he's not a great driver. Now if you line up with him as your car sits and he launches it off the box....your screwed cause it's gonna go like a raped ape and you will have to play catch up majorly. I've raced a couple friends subi's at the track for them and stock I had an STI running 8.0 1/8 mile.
As for the being junk...the Imprezza WRX tranny's are terrible and weak! We broke the tranny 4 times in a STOCK WRX with hard launches and never broke it again after we put the 6spd Sti tranny in. I do agree it is a drivers car, if your scared of breaking sumthing with one then your going to bog it down really bad, those cars have to leave on the box if you want a good launch...other wise you might as well take of normally. Either way good luck with whatever happens, and let us all know the outcome.

Gears and exhaust. The install on gears will be around $250,give or take a little. You can shop around and find a good deal on gears and a rebuild kit. Don't forget you'll need lube too. I put my exhaust together for less then $400 installed.
