SCT 4 Bank Chip.........
i get from iraq this weekend and am going to order a few parts for my car. one is obviously going to be this chip. i have a stock 2000 GT 5 speed. i'm getting a tunable inductions CAI, already have an SSS catback exhaust sitting at home, steeda pulleys, and an MGW short throw shifter (not that that will give me horsepower). i'm going to get at least 2 tunes, one for 87 octane and one for 93 octane. now i know GT motor bottom ends aren't that strong, but what do you all think of a 100 octane tune also or i know there are some limits to what the chip can be tuned to, so can it even be tuned for 100 octane. i have ran 100 octane in my mustang as well as my previous ones with no problems but not with a dedicated tune. all info is greatly appreciated for i am getting home this friday hopefully and would like to order it that day or saturday. so blow this up for me if y'all can. i appreciate it fellas and gals. also any guesstimates on wheel power and we'll see who is the closest for i will be getting it dynoed afterwards. thanks again.

agreed. 100 octane isn't going to help you. You're probably making around 220-230rwhp now.
the bottom end is not super strong but it's pretty darned stout still. 400rwhp is a lot of power and the stock bottoms handle that pretty well... for a while. Detonation is the killer of stock motors more than just power level.
Get a 87 tune and a 93 tune and a valet tune or your stock tune. That way you can effectively shut the chip off when you need to take it to a dealer for service (if you ever do taht sort of thing)

why not? Dealers I deal with would immediately plug in and see if the tune had been tinkered with.... if it's the stock tune then they would probably overlook checking for a chip and a switch.

It's true. While waiting at the dealer while they were running the numbers for my mom's car, I was looking at the chart showing the things they do at services and one of them was to check to see if the stock tune is still stock.

Hello McFly! The car is a 2000. Not likely that it is under warrantly anymore so who gives a dam what the dealer says, knows, or does.
Getting service done at a dealer fro this car will be hit or miss. Depends on what you want them to do and what type of dealer it is. Some welcome doing after-market work and others run from it.
I had my pullies installed at a dealer for $50. That was a deal if you ask me.
Now, on to your mods. As others have already mentioned, don't waste your time with 100 octane fuel. It won't matter unless you can increase your compression or have a blower car. Also, be realistic what to expect from a chip as far as power increase even if it is dyno tuned. For a near-stock car such as yours, you should only expect about 7 - 8 hp. It may even make less power. The only gain you can say for sure, is that it will run and idel better after a tune, but that is about it.
On a near-stock, 5 speed Mustang, dynos and chips just are not worth the money. A chip/tuner is useful especially if you have future mods planned, so it is a good thing to have as they can grow with your car.
Want immediate results? Get gears! 4.10's will add the equivalent of about 40 hp as far as what they will do for you in accelleration and for about $550 installed. Your import buddies will not know what you are talking about and will think you are nuts, but trust us....this si the best thing you can do for your stang.
Then, you can use the chip/tuner to calibrate the speedo and gain a few more hp with a simple mail-order tune.
