Hello all, I am new to posting here but have been reading for a while. This weekend I put new BBK long tubes, O/R X pipe, and a cat back on my 96 GT.... To be quick I will say I have other mods (intake, pullies, yadayada) My point is the install. Granted I did the whole install myself in my carport out in the cold but this was still the biggest P.I.T.A. you could begin to imagine. I am not a newbie a garage by any means, but I must say that this install was VERY challenging. I won't get into all the details but I will say it took at least 10 hours, and there are still some loose ends I need to wrap up. However, it sounds un-believable... like heart stopping, jaw dropping, cop-calling, un-believable. If any of you are getting ready to do this install email me first. I believe I can save you some pain and suffering..... For the rest of you I will post some sound clips and pics soon. As for dyno #'s lets just say my car adds a whole new meaning to rice burner....... :violent5:

I looked at mine while under there last night welding some stuff. No way i would attempt it without at least lifting the motor way up or pulling it. I saw those pityful logs that are on there now. I think my riding lawnmower has better factory headers, But i guess they work. I dont see any major gains on any short tube reviews. Just long tube. If your gonna put headers on you might as well do it right!!
Man there's a big difference in price between 5.0 long tubes and 4.6er's!!! OUCH!!!!

Your right, It was tough. I had the car on jack stands and had to remove the engine mounts to allow me to jack the engine up about 5 inches on both sides, that was the easy part... Once I squeezed the headers into place I had to alternate raising and lowering the engine to get the header bolts into place on the heads... I would have liked to pull the engine, but I didn't have time as this is my daily driver. This project actually started as a mid-pipe and cat-back, but during that install the bolt on the exhaust manifold broke, soooo why would I go to the trouble of pulling the stock log to fix it when for a little more effort and money I could have Long tubes... |

Guys:
I Split this thread. This was started as a tech thread and then has moved in a new direction. I placed the rest of the thread in "SMACK TALK". You can continue your rants their if you wish. Please keep all further posts related to the original topic. It is not normal practise that I do this, I just thought this was best in this case.
