Yea well Ill fess up to it. I got whooped out on the street today. It looked like a bone stock 98 cobra but it did sound like it had Flowmasters on it.
Should I be ashamed or did I just get beat by a faster car? Mine is an 03 GT hardtop with a manual tranny. I have the diablotune and steeda pullies with a K and N filter. I also have Nitto DR's out back. I have a 75 shot of ZEX nitrous, but I dont have it hooked up because I cant get any traction while its cold outside. Pulled up to the light. I took off late because I wasnt paying attention. I was too busy looking for signs of mods on his car. I had the absolute worst launch ever and lit the Nitto DR's up because its so cold out. I shifted pretty good but he had me by a half a car when we got to the next light. I cant wait till I get money for 3.73s! |

Let me put on my parental hat "you should not be street racing ". Remember this is a 98 cobra so its most likly paid off which means he has money to spend on the stang. Just because its an older stang doesnt mean that itwill be an easy kill.

I will say one thing to that and end. You should have known that he was FASTER. Now if you were using NOS that would be different.

I run faster than n 4valves all the time. just cause its got more power doesnt mean the guy or gal can drive. hell i see guys with more mods then me running 14's and then i own them with my 3 power mods lol Plus power-shifting owns you.

you need gears and not 3.73 unless you will be adding a power adder. his hp and torque is still higher then yours.

My 99 GT usually can hang with similarly modded 96-01 Cobras. I also have a 100 shot of Zex nitrous should the need arise. I have 4.10's which make all the differance in the world. Unless you drive on the highway everyday, skip 3.73's....

I have raced a fair amount of 97-98 Cobra's at the track. Those cars take skill to drive. They have less power down low with the 4v so you should take them off the line. If you don't they will come get you up top. I beat them so bad off the line that it doesn't matter. Most of the one's I've raced only ran low 14's high 13's with some light mod's. Get a good driver and a set of 4.30's or 4.56's with some sticky tires and they are a real hand full. The older one's have the live axel so they can launch if set up right then you are screwed unless you have a ton of mod's or a power adder.

Why on earth do you guys assume "flowmasters"? Blowmasters have to be THE worst exhaust systems out there.
A 98 cobra will whomp on any GT without some major modifications done to it. Benchracing at it's best right here. |

I got whooped by the new clk55 AMG :P we were just jamming together on the highway and downshifting on one another to snap on eachother....he took off sooooooo fast when he brought it back to second and gunned it jesus. I was eating his dust.... But then I downshifted and launched to catch up...I thought it was intertaining.

A 98 Cobra has 45 more fwhp than your 03GT. Not only that but it has about 1000 more usable rpm than you do. All things being equal, your car will lose everytime. With that being said...don't street race!

However, both cars have an equal toruqe rating from the factory. Plus the 99+ GT's peak torque is much lower than the Cobra. I know the GT's have a 3.27 gear, but Im not sure of the 98 Cobra. In a street race to 60mph, drivers and traction being equal, the GT's has a real good chance. The 1/4 mile will be a different story.
