Craigslist - Tips?
I'm basically looking for some idiot to buy my V6 for 6K. I figure maybe by the end of the summer I can catch someone, even if they make me a lower offer. I just made up a really rough draft of the listing, so tips are appreciated. Remember my target audience should be stupid and young, because I dont think anyone who has done their research will buy this for 6K....
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
DRAFT
Year/Make/Model: 1998 Ford Mustang 2 DR Coupe
Mileage: 130,XXX on body / 55,XXX on engine
Car runs great. It has a young engine, which was swapped in at 75K miles. Its fast, really fast. A good first car; it handles very well.
I've spent over $3000 on this car since I've had it. The front end has had extensive work done to it including replacing the fender hood bumper and some underhood things as well. This was done at Keenan East which is a very reputable body shop. The bill came to $1578.12, and I do have the receipt. I also had extensive work done to the car a few months ago including new brakes, rotors, tires, a new caliper, U-joint, battery, and some other things as well. Because I know an employee at Ford I only had to pay for a couple hours of labor instead of 15; but the bill came out to be $1260.70 - it would have been another estimated $1100 if I didnt know the person who did it.
In addition, the car has the following modifications (Possibly more if I forgot something):
Sony Xplod Head Unit
Pioneer 4-Way Speakers (All)
Black Headlights with Corner Lights
Mustang Logo Chrome Tire Stem Valve Cap
New Sun Visors (The old ones had broken mirrors)
New Passenger Side Mirror (old one was broken)
Polished Billet A/C *****
Billet Door Lock Pin Set
New Console Lid
New Floor Mats
Double Billet Headlight ****
Silver Faced A/C Panel Insert
I can also print out the receipts for the above items if someone is serious about buying the car and would like the documents. Were talking over $500 just in the items above. Also, the windows have tint on them.
The car has been professionally detailed as well (about a month ago), and I have washed it once or more a week ever since I bought it.
It was inspected early February of 2009.
If you are interested in the car, please email me and we can set up an appointment. If your looking to give it a test drive, I expect to see some cash - no joy rides.

Year/Make/Model: 1998 Ford Mustang 2 DR Coupe
Automatic Transmission
EPA Fuel Economy: City: 17 – 20 Highway: 25 – 29
Mileage: 130,XXX on body / 55,XXX on engine
Car runs great. It has a young engine, which was swapped in at 75K miles. This car is quick and nible, and would make a good first car.
The front end has had extensive work done to it recently. It has a new hood, fender, and front bumper. Also, a few months ago the brakes, rotors, tires, U-joint, and battery were replaced; plus a caliper needed to be replaced.

Overall the ad needs some re-wording/polishing if you will, it has short choppy sentences and each sentence comes off as if it was an after though.
Mainly the paragraph describing all the work that was done to it. It is akward and just doesn't flow.
Also this a 98 V6 mustang, trying to pass it off as "FAST'' well...yeah I would go with 'quick and nible' for the ad. Fast is not something associated with 99% of V6 stangs. Also mention the gas mileage for the car, gas mileage is a big topic these days and people want to know those facts. Oh yeah, don't forget to mention automatic or manual, don't think I saw that in your ad.
Offering to provide receipts is good, maybe mention routine maintinence being performed every #### of miles.
Also yet again, you are selling a V6 stang that is 11 years old, the comment about no joy rides comes off condescending and not something I would put in the ad. You should base who you let drive the car after meeting with them in person to show them the car. Obviously young teens by themselves, be skeptical, but adults, you should be more open to as they are more likely to have th cash to buy the car and are likely more responsible.
Overall good start, don't mean to sound rude, just trying to help you out.

honestly, that line right there would prevent me from even bothering. The fact is you are tryuing to sell it, insisting they pay to test drive it or commit to buy it without having yet had a test drive wont sink well with a lot of people

+1 I'd cut out all the bs about it being fast and the brakes would have cost more but you knew the guy. Mods don't add value so having receipts for body work etc isn't going to make a difference. Just be trustworthy and sound professional and you will get some hits. The first one you get isn't going to be like ok here's 6k it takes time to sell. Being professional is your best chance at getting what your requesting

Why even mention the hood, fender and bumper? Also, to me, there is no need to mention that it is a 2 door. If they want a Mustang and don't know that all Mustangs are 2 door, they shouldn't have the damn thing.
Keep everything short, sweet, and too the point. Too much information is unnecessary. Keep in mind that most people don't want to read a long-*** car ad. If they have any questions, they can contact you and ask.
This is what I would say if it were me selling your car.
1998 Ford Mustang Coupe V6
(Add exterior and interior colors)
Automatic Transmission
EPA Fuel Economy: City: 17 – 20 Highway: 25 – 29
Mileage: 130,XXX on body / 55,XXX on engine
It passed inspection in February 2009.
This car runs great. A new engine was installed at 75K miles. It is quick, nimble and would make a great first car.
The brakes, rotors, tires, U-joint, battery and a caliper were recently replaced. The hood, a fender, and the front bumper have been refurbished to match the rest of the car. (Since I don't know exactly why they had to have extensive work, that's all I could think of .)
The following are aftermarket additions. The receipts for are available to verify the purchases.
Sony Xplod Head Unit
Pioneer 4-Way Speakers (All)
Black Headlights with Corner Lights
Mustang Logo Chrome Tire Stem Valve Cap
New Sun Visors
New Passenger Side Mirror (old one was broken)
Polished Billet A/C *****
Billet Door Lock Pin Set
New Console Lid
New Floor Mats
Double Billet Headlight ****
Silver Faced A/C Panel Insert
Tinted windows
The car was professionally detailed recently. It has been faithfully washed at least once a week since I bought it.
If you are seriously interested in the car, please contact me so we can set up an appointment.

The hood fender and bumper were replaced because someone hit the bumper. there really wasnt any damage done to the hood or fender i worked something out with the auto body place though because i wanted them replaced due to less than perfect paint on them.
The above revision looks pretty good though, I think I'll give something like that a try after I get back from the shore next weekend.

I like what this says. with a few mods (changes in bold)
don't forget to add your contact info
I deleted a few things from your mod list, because they raise questions as to why they needed to be replaced. The same with the hood, fender, bumper, replacements. If asked if it's been in a collision you can answer yes and explain that it had some MINOR front damage that's been repaired. Listing the parts makes it sound worse than it was...
Why was the engine replaced?
Btw, good luck getting that much for your car. My 2000 GT with 78k miles bluebooks for @ $6,800 not including mods which don't add much value to sale price. Not that I'll ever sell it.

Awesome this is looking really good.
And yeah, I guess I don't need to say the fender hood and bumper got replaced.
I don't know why the engine was replaced to be honest. I guess I never thought to ask the previous owner :/
And yeah, I know I'll need some luck haha. The plan is to list it assuming it will not sell, but if it does then I can go out and get something faster and newer.

might make one more change leaving out the miles on body and only state 55k miles on new motor & have some explanation for why it was replaced. For ex. original owner bought for spouse/son/daughter and he/she neglected to change the oil & it siezed. or jiffy lube forgot to tighten the oil plug ... or it had a faulty rod...
Simply saying the original owner didn't tell me why the motor was replaced leads to thoughts of someone was racing it. etc. To get the most for the car the buyer needs to feel like it's something that will last a while.
