Default tax return question....

so on the 26th i go see the person to do my taxes. ive done turbo for the past couple years and i dont want to go that route this year. this time around i will be filing married seperate since im getting divorced.

well i just want to know if i will owe any money or if i will get anything back

i made 22k and i paid 1400 for federal and 270 for state tax (california)

if i owe money then ima have to yank some funds from savings since my checking is at a all time low.

It is really impossible to say with the info you have provided. I have a brother who is married with 2 kids and makes about 40k (he is an MD, but still in residency). He gets all his money back from the feds and then some because of the kids.

He can thanks George Bush for that. And to think the stupid dems think that the tax reform favored the rich. What a bunch of dopes.

You don't want to know what I will pay in federal tax this year.

last year was dumb because i was deployed and didnt have to pay federal for 5 months so i paid 800 dollars for the 10,000 i made that year. if i had filed married seperate i would of got back 300 and when i filed with the wife we got back 800 because of the combined incomes.

i have zero exepmtions and i have no children. i dont understand why they dont take out more. i gross 1860 a month and federal only takes out 125-130 something around there is that normal? most of my friends are at 140-160 a month.

Oh yeah get that fixed asap. When I first started working I fudged up my form and they never took out anything and I always wondered why I payed $120 while everyone else got money back. I'm wiser and now i'm teaching the 16 year olds under me what to do now.

Rep. don't necesarilly favor the rich.. the favor busineses..whereas Dems want to or do tax both big & small business at the same percentage..which sometimes kills small business.

(Learned this when I went into business with my boss as a general contractor, paperwork will be finished mid april) =p

As for your problem stanger.. from what i can remember (I don't have very much experience with taxes, i've only been working for 2 years ;x) you get more back when you have dependants and you are the head of the household..

So if your w-4 says you're still married and you have your kids as a tax writeoff you should be ok.. ( if you have kids)

If not..I beleive you will end up owing money..

im gonna owe money because my federal payments are at a married rate instead of a single rate. at least thats how i think it works. thats why i may end up paying a little more out of pocket, we'll see.

the people with kids get EIC (earned income credit) its a little bonus because kids cost a lot of damn money.

You where actually wiser before. If you get a refund all that means is you paid more than you should have.

Meaning the government used your money with an interest free loan until you get your refund.

If you have to pay, you used the goverenments money for your advantage on an interest free loan.

That was the problem I had no idea when I was 16 so I would use all that money have nothing left and when taxes came and had to pay something I didnt have the dough which means I borrowed from my parents and owed them.

Let's not confuse issues and stick with facts. My fault for bringing politics into the argument.

But, the more money you make, the more proportional taxes you pay. In other wirds, as you make more more, you pay a higher % in taxes. Low wages earners practically pay nothing in taxes. If you don't make a lot of money, and have kids, you get more money back then what you had weithheld.....it is almost a form of welfare. These are policies that are the direct result of our current president.

Take this real-life example. The person who started this thread claims to have made 22k and paid about $1600 in taxes. I just got a check this week for 22K from work (bonus payment), and 10K was withheld for taxes.

For those of you who are young and have great plans to make money in the future, you need to pay attention to this ****. Becuase, you get hosed by your governent! The higher wage earners pay for all the people who depend on social services.

My kids are in a the Wizard of Oz. One of the kids in the show is 9 years old and lives with his Mom. She is uneducated, umemployed, and living off the state. Her home is provided by social services. Every night, for 4 hours I sit and wait for my kids. I pass the time by bringing work home from my job and doing homework so I can complete my Masters. She sits and stares, sleeps, and does NOTHING. My wife ends up picking her up a lot and bringing her back and forth between home and the theatre. She does NOTHING.

You reap what you sow! For 99.9% of the poplulation, life just does not find you. People need to put effort into it.

While I agree with you 100% that alot of people are taking advantag of the government and I think its BS that you could get back more than you paid.

But that being said it hurst me alot less paying in the 33% bracket than it does the guy making 30K trying to feed his family and paying 20%.

I am not complaining about paying my fair share and more, but it does bug me when people say just tax the top 10% when they either fail to realize or care that the top 10% pay 80% of the taxes anyway.
