Airbrush, Fire, Autopaint progress.
Hey folks.
I dunno, some of you a while back might remember me talking about getting an airbrush setup and trying to learn how to paint fire.
Well. here is an update to that.
I got the airbrush, i used it a little, then it started to collect dust cause my first fire attempt was pure crap, and i got involved in other projects around the house.
Well now i got a girlfriend and she is pretty pushy, so badgered me into giving it another shot, and damn it went a LOT better the 2nd time, but still sucked.
The third time (last night) went pretty good, im starting to get the feel of it, and the 4th time (this morning) went even better.
Anyways, i got a ways to go before i start doing this crap on cars or bikes. But alreayd my technique is improving, and i cant wait to get home and work on it some more.
Last night i ordered up a spare needle for the airbrush, about 50 bottles of various paints, including some automotive paints, as well as a couple DVD's on custom graphics and fire. hoping to pick up some more by watching others with thier technique.
My airbrush is an IWATA Revolution CR. Pretty good brush, im digging it.
So here are the pics. Mind you the big one on the bottom is my 4th attempt and im still a novice at airbrushing, so dont bee to harsh on me, i know i have a long way to go. <grin>

Naa. I aint gonna be doin this stuff on cars.
I figure once i get the effect nailed down i can start doing bike tanks, fenders, and helmets and hawking the **** on ebay.
i see a lot of sets going from 1,300 to 1,700.
maybe a nice way to make some side cash.

i can get a firey kind of effect, but still need practice to get realistic fire.
Yah, the one on the top of the two was my 3rd, the bottom was my 4th.
I'd like to eventually do this stuff on my mustang, but when i do i think im gonna tape out the design for some oldschool style flames and then do true fire on top of that. Once the tape and masking is pulled off it will be olschool flames that look like rolling fire.
After my first attempt i just quit for about 3-4 months. The girlfriend pushed me to try again and each time i do it i see marked improvement. Im really starting to enjoy it too. im having a blast with this stuff now.
Badfish, well when i start getting good ill be doing some free work for advertizing. <grin> it will be probably 5-6 months of practic before i even think of doing a helmet. lol
That Mike Lavalee guy is freakin awesome, a hell of an artist. I dont know if i will ever be as good as him, but i really dont want to just imitate him, i'd rather come up with my own style for this stuff, so im trying to learn about his and other styles and devise one that works good for me.
here is a car he was doing...

Ive thought about that though. if i could nail that out and sell em for 20 bucks less than the competition i just might make a little scratch off of it.

as for trying new stuff out, Ive never been a fan of flaming ponies... like, the directonalness of it... I would rather see a glossy and flaming mach 1 grill delete feeding into the engine =D

maybe people are just more bold to say the stuff they dont like online, because they dont have to stand there, look the person in the eye and tell them "it could be better"
