Do what you want, but I'd just buy a beater. As for Mustang reliability, I have a '94 V6 with 160k miles on it and have never had to replace anything except the battery and regular maintenance stuff. Mustangs are built to last man. But, your decision.

Good choices in my opinion.

Heres my opinion. Get the Scion or the Honda. Even the mazda, but STAY AWAY FROM THAT ECLIPSE. Its ugly. JMO on that. Anyways, back to my point. The Civic Si would be awesome if you could get a good price on it. My friend has one, its peppy as hell for a 4banger and its hella cool on the inside. The Scions are great little cars. Tons of bang for the buck fun to be had, and lets be honest, Toyota >* now-a-days.

For all the naysayers, be realistic. What we drive are gas hogging, depreciating unreliable pigs. BUT dont get me wrong, they are fun as hell, but dont tell someone they are foolish for selling their mustang and buying something economically smart. Sure, best case scenario would be buying a beater to go with it, but then you have TWO insurances, TWO car payments, TWO tax notes, etc etc. Its not worth it to "buy a beater to save gas." Take it as a grain of salt, thats how I feel.

Buying a beater wouldn't be having 2 car payments. Buy outright, put liability only on it and save the stang for the weekends / whenever you wanna drive it. It's cool to have something you can trash and then have something you can look forward to modding. But, his decision. It'd just suck seeing other Mustangs for a while lol

Thanks Matt.

I also don't see the point of buying a beater.
Why would I buy a beater when it's something that I don't really want. I can't choose EXACTLY what I want. It would have hella miles already on it and not knowing what the previous owner had done. Stupid to pay 2 insurances.

Here's how it is now as far as monthly payments.
gas = $200
insurace = $160

with the new car
gas = $100
insurance = $140
car payment = $115 for 60 months

With good grades insurance drops another 50 bux and once i turn 21 it drops another 37 bux.

I'm still leaning towards a new car (Mazda 3 as of now) and I have awhile to make my decsion.

there's another reason to keep it...
add up those numbers u just figured...
u'll be saving 5 dollars a month...maybe 55 w/ the good grades

55 extra dollars in the pocket or the joy of drivin a stang?? hmmmm...which would u pick?

mine will be for sale soon and will be sold, but thas my own personal probs...

stangs still aren't the ultimate car, i don't care what people say, but they're definitely fun

once I get my beater I will put a different coverage on the stang.....like a weekend driver...thats cheaper insurance right there....granted I already pay 87 bucks for full coverage right now :banana:

do what ya gotta do..but make sure to completly think about it..not just jump at an option really quick

Mazda 3's are cool, I just put CAI on one yesterday and putting borla on it later. That would be my choice if i was you and I had to get rid of the stang.

Wrong, the European ONLY focus is based on the Mazda 3 chassis, not the US version as I said in my last post. The US focus sucks compared to the European version and the Mazda 3.

The Fusion is based on a stretched Mazda 6 platform, which is the best move Ford could have made, its the best midsize chassis Ford has.

I think the ultimate car would be one that looks better than anything else, handles better, goes faster, more comfortable and never breaks down, fades, or acts up in any way. Basically, it doesn't exist. lol......

hey white thunder listen to me, my girlfriend has a 2006 scion tc rs2, im not sure where you got $20,200. because they start at 16,300. hers is a rs 2 which is a special edition with suade seats and a "special" color and hers only cost $20k out the door...

it really is a great little car, for a girl. but i dont think you will be happy with it in the long run, i mean you'll never have problems with it because its a toyota and they're the most dependable cars on the road but at the same time its just not a mustang if you know what i mean. its a chick car.

we looked at all those other cars you mentioned as well as a couple others but the scion tc was definitely the nicest and has the most features by far. and even though it has slightly less hp its still very quick for a 4cyl car because it only weighs 2900lbs. so if you are dead set on buying a smaller car then the scion tc is the one.

My uncle owns a Scion tC and he's got some nice stuff in it. So far he hasn't had any problems, but he's is a car freak and everything is perfect as far as the engine goes. I imagine most of you are as well as myself. He could sell it as new and no one would question his word. I like the looks of it and like I said he's never had any mechanical problems with it because he does his regular up-keep. That's really the only car I can comment on as far as experience goes, but I've heard that the Mazda is an extremely reliable car as well as the Civic. Personally I think the new Civics look a little wierd.

Jetta 2.5 PERIOD! Great car, looks nice, adn priced right. You can get a nice 2.5 with leather, sunroof and a 5 speed for $20,500. Car has an MSRP of $22k+.

I prefer the 2.5 over the 2.0T and the TDI why? Because the 2.0T requires premium and the TDI cost about $4,000 more and you don't get that much better fuel economy and have to pay more for the diesel. Idf you plan to drive more then about 30k per year, then the TDI will pay for itself. Also the diesel will hold-up better if you plan to put tons of miles on it.

I was just quoted $225 a month on a Jetta 2.5 Stage 1 lease. 24 months and 24k miles. That is with $3k due at signing. Not bad for a car that would never need tires or any maint besides oil changes when you get rid of it and my bro gets 35 mpg with his.

I may buy one of these for myself in about a month.

you will have more problems than you can deal with, and they dont hold their value. but good luck.

It's a lease....who cares if it holds it's value or not. Also, 24k miles so longevity is not an issue either. Either way, I think these are goood cars and from the used ones I have seen, it is not worth it to buy a used one when they are only a few grand less then new.

Alright guys, bringing this back to life.

Still haven't sold the car, but am not in a huge rush. Been getting around 4-5 calls a week.

Budget: $16,000-17,000 AFTER 6.5% local sale tax.

I really don't have a clue what I want. It MUST get at least 23 city MPG and in the 30's for highway. Also if it's a coupe, I would like to have room in the back seat.

With this said, I really like the Mazda 3's and Mazda 6's for the price. Lot's of 6's going for around 16K and under.

I also like the 03-05 Honda Accord Coupes, I think they're pretty nice, but hard to find a nice EX under 16K.

The only sub compact car I like is the Chevy Cobalt, but I'm a little weary of reliability, small problems, and gas mileage.

UGHHH frustrating!

I ended up with a loaded Saab 9-3 in late June. Car had 23k miles on it, was completely clean, a 2003, and came with a factory 100k mile warranty. I paid $17,500.

I am now embarressed to think that I was considering Cobalts, Mazda 3's, or a Jetta. I got three times the car for a lot less money then the other options. I am probably a lot older then you, so the Saab may not have the same appeal....for that matter, to me, the Cobalt, Mazda 3, and Jetta's seemed liked kids cars, so I was glad to get a grown-up car - LOL

I still have the Stang, but I wanted a nice DD since I lost the company car when I got promotted.

BTW, the Saab gets 35 mpg on the highway and 22- 24 around town.

I've actually test drove the new Civics and really really like them. However, I only like the new ones and it's hard to find them used since there so new for under 17K.

Go ahead and sell it and buy whatever you want. Looks like you're really not that interested in your Mustang. If you were, you wouldn't be considering selling for the mentioned new cars.
