Default Couple of sct questions

First off what is a dual stage rev limiter? Second off, I thought the tuner could only hold one tune, so how would you get two tunes with it? Also is there 17rwhp and 20ft.lbs claim, with a mail ordered tune, or dyno tune? Is this claim proven?

That is all.

What happens is that when you are getting ready to launch and the 1st stage limiter is set for say 4,000 rpms, then that is as high as the car will rev, no matter how hard you press the pedal. Then, as you drive, the car will rev all the way to the second rev limiter setting which might be somethinglike 6,200. Second off, I thought the tuner could only hold one tune, so how would you get two tunes with it? Some tuners can hold up to 3 tunes, plus your stock tune. These tunes are labled and when you upload the tune, it pulls the stock tune off and then you can select which tune you want installed. You may have a nitrous tune, or a drag race tune, or a 87 octane tune etc.... It is really limitless, but you can only store three custom tunes. Also is there 17rwhp and 20ft.lbs claim, with a mail ordered tune, or dyno tune? Is this claim proven? That depends. Actual results will vary from car to car it all depends on how bad or good your stock tune it. For the most part, a dyno tune will net the highest hp results, BUT I have seen cases where a mail-order tune netted more hp then the dyno tune, but the dyno tune was still a more optimal tune. You see, it is not always about hp. I would say that your experience might be a tad higher, but most likely a little lower then this claim. It also depends on what octane it is programmed for too.

That is all.

See above..............................

HP and TQ claims are the best when used with PREMIUM (93+) OCTANE fuel.

That's the only octane I use anyway, so I guess I'm good to go. Expect a order from me sometime next week.

here ya go.. the blue is the stock tune vs the red which is a tune with an xcal 2 on the dyno

the tune added 13 rwhp and 22 rwtq (notice the gains around 3500 rpms though is MUCH higher)

So if I get the SCT cal 2 then I have to get an extra tune to save the stock tune?
Also when you have to give information to the place you order it from they ask for a computer code....what exactly is that?
One more thing. Would it be a good idea to have a tune with catted pipe and 87 octane and one also with non catted 93 octane for the strip?

your stock tune gets saved to the sct hand held tuner itself. you can have the tune that comes with the tuner or youcan have custom tunes added to it. your computer code is on your ECU box behind a panel in passenger feet area.

the computer code should also be located on a sticker that's in the door jam of the passenger side door (it's on the door)

sweet thanks I am pretty much leaning towards getting one now very soon. Just want to make sure of something.....If I get the tunner now and later I add gears or T/B and plenium or any other upgrade or take off my cats then can I make the adjustment myself or what do I do to change the tune? Do I have to pay somebody and mail it somewhere to get it re-tuned? Thanks

ehh.. it depends. I believe SCT came out with a newer version of their tune files that lets the user make adjustments to the tunes when I had all mine done. But I initially had a dyno tune and then later on added 4.10 gears and I was able to change that myself using a program you can download onto your comptuer from SCT's website.

Unles your car is tuned for 91 or 93 octane fuel then you should be running 87.

Darksith...don't mean to hijack yer thread, but...I've got the xcal 2 sittin' here programmed from MT for 4.10 gears. It may be a while before I get the gears thrown in due to work, BUT if I install the program on my car will I be able to change the gear ratio on the tune? I want to install the performance tune from MT BUT keep my stock gear ratio until the 4.10's go in. Any help?

On the tune I got from you? I haven't been able to read a lot of the online manual yet, but it sounds like I can't change the "dealer" program with out the software Christie mentioned...

supposedly that all depends on the intial tune file or something along those lines.. I'm not really sure but I can't change my tune at all on the hand held tuner.. I have to hook it up to my computer and use that software to chagne it. I also got the Xcal2 whenever it first came out /shrug they were suppose to add the support where you could adjust the tune later on I think

No, you can tweak the tune that is on there when you hook it up to the car. Thats kinda the whole point :P

Christie you are probably on Advantage II software. There is an update to advantage III software that lets you tweak the tunes. Call up the place that you had your dyno runs at and see if they can send you the new AdIII programming files so you can tweak them on your PC. I dont think they would charge you anything for it.

lol yeah.. that's what I was trying to say but I couldn't remember what version they were on and what I had. My version won't let you tweak the files. I have nothing to change so I haven't bothered in getting the Advan III stuff lol.
