Default EXHAUST CHOICES

I AM LOOKING INTO GETTING A NEW EXHAUST BUT NOT SURE WHICH WAY TO GO, 1) FLOWMASTER AMERICAN THUNDER 2) MAGNAFLOW CATBACK 3) SLP LOUDMOUTH 1 . I HAVE A 98 GT WITH LITTLE TO NO MODS BUT WOULD LIKE IT TO SOUND MORE AGGRESSIVE. THE LOUDNESS IS OK BUT NOT THAT IMPORTANT MAINLY NEED A RUGGED SOUNG NOTHING RASPY. ALSO FOR LATER DOWN THE ROAD WHEN I GET A NEW MID-PIPE DOES IT HAVE TO BE "CATTED"? I MAY SOUND LIKE A NOOB BUT WOULD ANY OF THE CATBACKS BE SUFFICENT FOR EMISSIONS OR IT JUST DOES NOT WORK LIKE THAT? THANKS ANY INFO WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED !!!!!

I have magnaflows and like 'em, just not loud enough...but my buddy has a '98 gt with an o/r H and LM1 resonators and we both think it sounds great.

-Also-

YOU DON'T HAVE TO TYPE IN ALL CAPS AND TYPE IN BOLD !!!!!

It's hard on the eyes.

Anyways, catted vs uncatted is totally up to you. Many places require you to pass emissions and in that case, put cats on for the emissions test and pull 'em when your done.

Magnaflow is too quiet. It has a good sound but just really not audible enough for me. Flowmaster I feel is louder than magnaflow, but is very common. I vote SLP. I have heard SLP 1's can get a little raspy, thats why I went with the SLP II. So far they have a great sound, a low gurgle that just progressively builds and gets nice and loud.
Here is a good comparison of SLP I vs. SLP II.

and yeah no cats or cats is just subject to whether or not you have to pass emissions really.

I dont see Hooker Aero Chamber's in your voting choices... Aero Chambers sound the best...and a cool thing about them is that not many people use them... so you wont be following the crowd so much.

If you don't want raspy that pretty much means no SLP loudmouth catbacks. For a deep rumble you want MAC,FLowmaster, or any chambered muffler setup and in general stay away from X-pipes.

OK THANKS!!! SOUNDS LIKE SO FAR SLPs ARE OUT FOR ME AND AS FOR AERO CHANBERS NEVER HEARD OF IT BUT I WILL LOOK INTO IT. IT LOOKS LIKE FLOWMASTER IS WHAT I AM LOOKING FOR. MAYBE I WILL GO WITH MAGNAFLOW NOT SURE I DO NOT WANT IT TO BE TO QUITE, AGAIN LOOKING FOR A RUGGED RUMBLE SOUND. SO HOW MUCH WOULD THE MID-PIPE HELP THE SOUND? FOR SOME REASON I ORIGIONALLY HAD IT IN MY HEAD I WANTED MAGNAFLOW, SO WOULD ADDING THE MID-PIPE GIVE ME WHAT I WOULD WANT OUT OF THE MAGNAFLOWS????? THANKS

Dave, I really hate to burst your bubble.. 'Cause I know you have a love afair with the Aero Chambers, but if they don't pick up some serious volume with the X-Pipe on they're gonna be off the car ASAP. They have a great sound at 2,000-2,500 RPM, but anything before or after that is so quiet it's ridiculous. Basically the only time that it has a good sound IMHO is @ 2-2500 (especially at decel) or at WOT over 4000..

BTW: A lot of people do use the Aero Chambers, just no one with a Mustang, they're really popular with all of the Camaro's & T/A's..

Sorry man, that's JMHO.

I got the set on your car at Mustang's Unlimited... anyhoo... no cats make any car much much louder...you'll see. I put the Aeros on there after listening to the Flowmaster's that were on there when I bought the car... DRONE MASTERS... then I heard MCM's car and fell i nlove with that sound.. as long as you dont put SLP on the car, I wont have to come down to TN and kill you...lol.

I want the car to sound like it is going to kill people.. I know that sounds bad, but I want to scare the **** out of people driving down the road, or taking a nap in their house. lmfao

If SLP's ever go on the car it will probably be LM2's, but I will probably end up going with Super 44 Flow's. The super 44's are leaps and bounds above the previous models.

Again, that all hinges on how the car sounds with the X-pipe on the car. If the Aero's come to life without the cat's then I'll leave it alone.

eh.. Maybe if I was 15 then I would like street cars that are really loud . But since I'm not, I like my cars to sound a little more tuned.

I find it a bit strange that the various options from flowmaster and SLP are talked about, but not those from Magnaflow. The Magnapacks have great sound, nice and agressive when you want it to be... There is a little drone, but that may verry well be from the Bassani x-pipe I had installed at the same time.

i like my flowmasters. i think SLP sounds raspy. mangaflow too quiet. SLPs are loud tho. i like the set-up i have and my friend has. my 95 and his 98 both have flowmaster american thunder, then an offroad(no cats) h-pipe. in michigan we dont need emissions tests so its easy

I have an O/R Xpipe with Magnaflows. It sounds good...but honestly the flowmaster 40 series sound amazing. Im switching to the flows very soon.
