Default supercharger and gears ?

why do most people recommend not having anything higher than 3.73 if you want to go the sc route?
i am considering it as myfinal mod next spring... and i have 3.90's.

How much of a difference did the 3.90's make?

because with a power adder it makes it very hard on street tires to get moving. basicly they spin really easy.

hmmm... crap. so i would have to spend the extra $ to get my gears changed to a lower set, plus labor? that sucks. i'm a stupid noob :crybaby2:

dammit now i'm pissed.
maybe i will just go with a p-51 instead. man did i want a supercharger though.

oh, and i felt a pretty good jump in acceleration with the 3.90's. you definatley notice they are there.

A friend of mine is adding a supercharger soon and he is leaving his 4:10's in the rear.

I'd wait to change out the gears until i had the sc dialed in. A lot depends on how much boost you're after and the type driving you'll be doing. A mild oe type install with 6-7 psi might work ok for you with the 3.90's - you can always go to 3.53's or 3.73's later if you have to.

If you're after big time boost, the gears are just part of the story. What sc are you planning to install - what size gear - and are you going with the intercooler/aftercooler/whatever when you do the install?

Its true that serious cobra drivers are running 9's with 3.53's - its all about traction and keeping the 1/4 mile rpm's in the sweet part of the power band (or so I've been told - I should have such a problem with my na gt). But those guys are pulling insane boost out of their rigs - and everything is based on your specific application. Kenne Bell, for instance, tells me they don't recommend I bolt one of their 2.2's or 2.4's onto my stock block - I'd need to go through the whole engine with forged guts, correct pistons, better valve springs, probably titanium retainers, etc.

You could go the route of a turbo with the exhaust coming out the side scoops (OMG the side scoops would ACTUALLY be functional). JMS Products does em. I saw the car with it on it today, its pretty ****ing sweet.

i don't do track racing.. although i would likely consider running it at the track just to get some times after the install. i'm looking fr fast.. i don't need to be the fastest car around though. a mild boost will probbaly do alright for me, i am guessing 6-7. the supercharger is expensive already, so i dont want to spend a ton of cash on getting other things done. i want it safe too, i dont have a ton of money to replace a blown up motor... so a small boost would do me just fine. i want the safest type also, so i would definatley want the coolers..

and the car is a summer daily driver for the most part. i put less than 5k in miles on it a year.
