K&N Filter added to Cold air kit
I found a cheap 50$ cold air kit I was considering buying, but I just spent 60$ on a K&N air filter that I've barely put a few hundred miles on. I was wondering if I could just put the K&N on the cold air kit. It's just a cheap, no brand that I'm aware of, kit that is similar to the one AM has. I sent an email to the company selling it, but they never responded.

lol. That was my idea, but I'd LIKE to try to save some money somehow. If it doesn't fit, I'm stuck with a brand new filter I can't use.
That's good to hear that it will just as well. Underhood looks isn't an issue. I'm usually the only one that looks under the hood anyways.

i think the length of the filter is going to be an issue w/this depending on what type of cai ur getting (fenderwell or engine bay kinds). but yea matt summed it up really good, if it doesn't fit, it's not gonna work. if it don't fit, sell it on ebay or to a friend w/a stang. or on here after ya get 50 posts under ur belt.

Hey bro just sell the K&N and the other filter that comes with the CAI. And then purchase you another K&N that will work with you CAI. That is what Im going to do. I bought my CAI off of ebay for 50 it routes into the fenderwell. So I plan on selling my K&N for 20 bucks that will at least cover most of the cost when I buy another K&N for my CAI.

I removed my silencer. I would still get the CAI. Is it the fenderwell type?

if its a cone filter then you can just buy an adapter plate to attatch the filter right to the MAF. That eliminates the filter housing so it would essentially be just like a short ram intake. Only difference between that and another brand CAI is that you get better looks with it but that metal pipe gets really hot...

Yeah I noticed that with my ram air intake on my Zx2 escort I had. That pipe was hot as hell. I think the pipe would have been a little cooler if I would have ran it in the fenderwell.

i actually had a son of a bitch of a time with the CAI kit from AM. the stupid filter fell off after we put it on while i was driving. we made sure the damn thing was on tight. it just didnt fit on the end of the pipe like it should.
i actually ended up buying a K&N filter to put on it. it didn't fit perfectly so we had to modify the end of it and cut some of the rubber on the filter off so that it would fit nice and snug with the hose clamp. but after we slapped that sucker on there its been solid for 6 months.
