2000 GT with 2 questions
I hope you guys don't mind yet another newbie's questions, but I have exhausted the threads---and my mind. I have decided (after reading all of your advice) to begin my modification journey with 4.10 gears and new exhaust. The gears I'm changing for the difference I'll feel, and the exhaust for the difference I'll hear. My biggest concern is whether or not there's anything I need to do to the front end of the engine so that adding the new exhaust will not cause any more problems. Finally, I have a 2000 GT with 100K miles on it. Am I wasting my time? I would really appreciate input from you guys/girls, positive and negative alike. Thanks a bunch.

Such a goob....
Posting a reply to my own thread. That's niiiiice. Anyways, I just realized that since I don't know what I'm doing, it would be great if there were some suggestions as to which exhaust and gear brand names are the best for my stang. I'll promise to send pics when it's done, for it is a fly *** car.

well no1 is replying bacuase this belongs in the General Tech section. but, i reccomend for exhaust the magnaflow magnapacks cat-back. im not sure if u were interested in a mid pipe or not, but i have the SLP X pipe and its great. also with that many miles and installing 4.10 gears id make sure your rear end is in good shape and install the 4.10s with a master bearing kit.

Thread moved.
You will be fine with exhaust and gears just make sure you stay on top of oil changes only because of the mileage. If you ever want to drop in some forced induction like a supercharger you will have to rebuild your engine.

for exhuast it depends on the sound you like and how loud you want it. If you want that deep old school muscle car sound then a chambered muffler like MAC,Flowmaster is the way to go. If you want that higher pitched loudness then a straight threw setup form SLP,Borla, magnaflow etc.. is what you want.
Do realize that when you change the catback it will get alot louder when you change the mid pipe aswell. And if you go off-road mid pipe it will be alot louder.

On the exhaust---is magnaflow or even the steeda upgrade worth that much more than going with flowmasters? I mean, I live in alabama, so most everyone here uses flowmasters anyways. It's really the only name I grew up hearing.

The mufflers alone won't do anything for performance until you start getting into some crazy hp numbers (say like 400+ hp). I have the Flowmasters and love the sound but now that I'm doing a lot of highway driving w/ my back seats folded, it's starting to get to me. Also, another to consider is the Hooker Aerochambers which have a similar sound but no drone and out-performs the Flowmasters. When mine rust out, that's what I'm going to try out next.

Yeah, I'm assuming mine are too since the muffler-tail pipe connect is very crappy looking w/ all the crud (rust) and during acceleration, it's giving a bark when I let go of the throttle which it never did before. I think mine has another year before it sounds like tin can and new mufflers are needed.
