hi everyone am new here. i just wanted to know what is there difference between the 64 1/2- 66 mustang to the 67-68. all my friends in my group have 86-93 mustang to 03. and no one has a classic. am trying to get a classic and build it up. and now it depends on what year i should get. my co worker has a 65 mustang. and i was wonder would 67-68 parts like body parts fit on the 65? i tried searching but havent found anything on the internet and here.

Finally something I really know about. I have several 64-66 mustangs and have had several dozen over the years.
No, body parts from a 67-68 won't fit the "early" 64-66 cars. If I had a choice, I would buy the early cars because parts are much more plentiful in the aftermarket world. If you like conviences, I'd go with the 67-68. By conviences I mean power steering, power brakes, air conditioning and what not. All those things are on the early cars, but they are more prevelant on the 67-68 cars. |

641/2 to 66 were smaller and more square. The biggest motor was the 289. They body style in 67/68 was similar looking but was longer and wider (which could accomodate the big blocks). 67 had 2 fake vents on each side of the rear quarter, 68 had one scoop on each side of the rear quarter. 67 and 68 coupes are pretty common still and can be had in decent condition with a straight 6 for as low as $3000. A V8 adds a few thousand more and a decent fastback is hard to come by for less than $10K. 67 and 68 is when they really started to get fancy with the power options.

if you're a big block kind of guy... stick with the 67+ cars. The earlier cars were kinda small for big block powerplants to fit. Plan on spending a bit more than a brand new mustang costs to make an old one really cherry. The early years they changed so much from year to year that it is usually a true statement that year x parts will not fit on year y cars.

hmm people had told me that the body on 65-68 are about the same other then the little stuff like motor etc. but the body is the same. i wanted to do a eleanor front end on the 65 and throw a 302 in it and a c6 3 speed auto tranny, just kinda keep it alittle simple.
u guys think it would work?? the reason is why am getting a 65 is that my co worker has one in his back yard that has been sitting there for 5 yrs. body is straight ,only have rust on the fender but other then that its the only body work it needs. its has the 64 1/2 motor i think its the six and he only want 600 for the car. |

If you are going to use a 302, use a C4, no need to use a C6 since those were designed for big blocks, not small blocks. On that note, I don't think the C6 would fit for that reason either.

64-66 was much smaller than the 67-68 cars. 302 would go fine in a '65 and you'll want the c4 but if the car is gutted, why not throw a roller 5.0 from a 90-93 Mustang with a t5 tied to it (and a Paxton for nostalgia) or at least a 351W.
