Default MT Catted X pipe

I would like to know why these catted x pipes are so cheap? Every one elses are around 400.00. Are yours as good as the others? I need catted pipes, mine are rattling, I don't have a lot of money to put into the pipes right now. Will these be enough to pass emmisions ? Please help.
Thanks, Tammy

These catted x-pipes are from Pypes Performance, and a good deal for the money. Only difference is that these pipes are Aluminized Steel, not Stainless Steel. Otherwise the cats and everything should allow you to pass emissions fine.

They are a 400 series stainless steel. 409 I suspect.

http://www.mustangmeet.com/specs/2001.php

This link shows the exhaust as being stainless steel on the V-6 and GT for my 01.

I did some digging and discovered that ford started using 409 SS in 1992 for they're exhaust systems. Don't know about every vehicle but Crown Vic did for sure. I would think the mustang did in 94.

If its stainless, why do I have rust on my pipes? Same with Bobs old exhaust, why does he have rust on them if Ford made those pipes w/ stainless steel?

All grades of stainless steel will corrode. They just do it at different rates depending on what enviroment the are subjected to. A 400 series stainless is better than regular mild steel but it still corrodes much quicker than a 300 series stainless. Chromium is what makes the steel "stainless". The amount of Chromium in the different alloys changes its properties to resist rust to make the long story short.

wow guys, I didn't know all this would be invoving what seemed like a simple question.
So if I purchased the MT Catted X pipe, it should be as good as the stock one?
Would weight be the only factor between the MT pipes and say Mac?

Well ive just been schooled.

The MT X-Pipe would actually be a bit better than the stock one because it only has 2 high flow cats instead of 4 cats. As far as the MT and Mac, I dont have a real weight comparison between the two that I can refer to.
