Default im not sure if i can get complete turbo help here...

but its worth a try cuz everytime i make a thread on here i get great help from u guys. o well anyway i would like to turbo my 5.0 (302).

i was thinkn 2 options remote turbo (turbo in the rear or at the middle of the H-pipe) and the other option is just a single turbo small boost about 6psi. I would really like to do the STS kind of turbo set up in the rear so that way i could have room under the hood for maintenance and wont have to go through the whole heat under the hood thing. im definitely open to opinions and also facts. does anyone in here have a fox with a turbo or 2 on it? i have never worked on a boosted car but have been around a few so im no noob.

build sheets would be nice, and pics lol. basically just open to any suggestions. I DONT WANNA GO THE BLOWER/SUPER CHARGED ROUTE. to many mustang owners have done it, and im not interested.

wouldn't the STS setup cause severe turbo lag due the placement of the turbo and all that piping?

It does cause some Lag, but correctly sized turbos will take alot of that away. Its really the easy way to go if your gonna do a DIY style setup. You do need a oil pump to pull the oil out of the turbo and push it back to the engine. I would take the back of the H cut it off and use a Y pipe into a single (if your gonna do a single) and then route the exhaust back form that. But there are alot of different ways to go about a rear mount setup. The biggest problems will be running all that extra piping and the extra oil lines and oil pump.

thanks for the heads up, u guys are great. i looked on the STS site and they have no kits for my car, but im so glad that i can have a turbo or 2 and still have room under the hood for other stuff.

one more thing if u guys were to do the STS idea would u do twin turbos???

do i build up the motor as if the turbos were under the hood? i was just planning on doing low compression pistons and new valve springs.

ok... I'll throw in my 2 cents:

1. STS sucks for power per dollar spent and there's no getting around that. The turbo works off volume of exhaust and as the exhaust cools heading to the turbo at the back or middle of the car it loses power and cokes (coats with coal like crap) the insides of the turbine housing. Long oil lines near heat are BAD and then there's the lag (which is admittedly small thanks to their selection of turbine wheels.

2. turbos under the hood are optimum for power but REQUIRE an intercooler and a reliable oil supply.

3. A properly sized and wheeled turbo is terrifyingly efficient at adding power and a DIY kit isn't really that hard if you can weld.

Start at 8lbs or don't bother unless your combo has high compression. The difference between 6 and 8 at the wheels is enough to appreciate but not enough to change the longevity of the motor if your tune is right and you drive like someone that likes their car.

tuning with turbos is a little more fun than with blower cars but nothing insurmountable. i'd advise getting a cam designed to make use of every ounce of power the turbo can deliver (very little overlap, biased to exhaust side on duration).

thanks for all the suggestion, info, and opinions. this is definitely not something im gonna do this year. its gonna be sometime but i definitely wanna do it. 89-93 foxes already have forged internals, and i would love to be different with the turbos under the car. it looks like this project would be alot of fabrication work. i only know one person with the STS turbo set-up. he has a 2002 camaro SS he's out here in maryland doesnt come to many car meets, but his car is sick. and its not a LS1 either i think its a 408. and it makes about 600 horses.
