Default new prob

the blower is now off the car and no more smoke present or oil spewing out. was running good for the last two days with no blower and im about a mile from home and the engine started to have a hard tick. not quite a lifter tick but somthing harder more solid. i checked the valvetrain alls good there. put back together start it up and knock still there, start pulling plug wires and noise doesnt go away. what could this be?

a consistent knock, that changes with RPM is usually a spun main bearing or CR bearing... that's usually the piston smacking the head. Hopefully not though. tough to diagnose without hearing it.

My bro had a ticking noise and it was a spun bearing. It will get worse with time.

Yeah no doubt it will get worse if it is lower engine. Damage will be greater too because as bearing slides and tears, crank is gonna take some serious grinding grooves. Oil movement can also become inadequate, causing extensive damage, possibly even to the block. I wouldn't drive, I got pics of what spun bearings can do.

Check out these from my SBC -

I thought I had a close-up of the crank with some ugly grooves and gouges in the main & rod journals, but I guess not. I'll be sure to get one. Anyway, those bearings are beat, and not all of them were that complete. Some were torn apart and I found chunks of bearing throughout the oilpan, including clogging up the oil pump pickup. This engine knocked loudly. The crank is beyond repair, I just hope the block and heads are OK. Still haven't had them magnafluxed yet. All new rotatings going in though for sure
