Default Shelby GT 500

Carroll Shelby took this one for a personal spin around the block. It must have a short throw shifter. And you'll notice the S/C isn't as loud as i think it should be. But he wasn't exactly letting it all hang out either. Sweet ride nonetheless...

Carol is one old dude. Makes you wonder how much he was really involved in this car.

Sort of a strange idea if you think about it. Ford took a very young, extremely talented guy who lead the design of the new Mustang, and put him in charge of the new Shelby. I think this showed a true purist approach for Ford to do this. In the past, SVT cards were always designed by a top-secret team who took an exisiting platform.

Carol's involvement was probably minimal IMO. But, still glad that he was involved.

I can name at least 12 people I know who seriously think they are gonna buy one of these. In the end, there will not be enough to meet the demand and most of us will probably never set foot in one. I can already imagine dealer seeling these for 60k+.

I agree with blake. You arent going to see one of these on the road for under 60k the first year, and good luck finding one too.

Someone asked me again yesterday if I was gonna buy a new Mustang. $35k for a new vert (if you can find one) and only $15k for mine. I can guarentee you that my car as setup is more fun to drive than a brand new one and $20k less expensive. BUT, I still avoid Ford lots cuz you never know.

I know the feeling but whats the use of haing a new GT when your current stang could smoke it. I guess its the cool factor of having something new. The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence. By the way Im going to post up the hood I got.

I don't think they will go for 60k. They are making 7,000 per year as a target. It is really just another Cobra. They will stick an extra 5k charge on them at the dealer when they first come out but just like the 03's within a year they will have to deal on them. Also with the array of performance cars coming from Dodge and Chrysler they will have some competition. Plus a new Mach and possibly a Boss will be out by 07. Should be good times ahead for Ford enthusiasts.

rebelyell, that supercharger whine is almost as loud as the tire squeel, and think of how loud that is. The 03-04 superchargers on the cobras were loud as hell, and the gt500 is going to be the same, if not louder.

That is bad azz man! wow. I'm a little more excited to see what other models they come out with that will be in between the Cobra and GT. I also agree with blake, I don't think my car would beat an 05 GT, but the it's still pretty fun to drive and I also stay away from the Ford lots! ha ha

Looks like we both need an intervention.

I hope you are right. If Ford is smart, they will market the crap out of the GT-500, but then roll-out 25k GT-350's and a bunch of Mach's and some Bosses for all the regular folk.
