Default V6 exhaust question

I was wondering if anyone knew all the other components I would need if I were to buy the MT x-pipe, and also which muffler would work best. And how i would go about putting it all together. I'm tryin to find the nicest sound for my mustang without spending over 500 (if it's possible).

yeah get a pacesetter V6 adapter kit, this wil allow for a dual cat back system to be installed.

Pace setter is the kit that we have that isnt the X-pipe.

As far as the mufflers go, any Catback of the same model year (i.e. you have a 2000 V6 you need to get a 99-04 Catback) will bolt up fine to the V6 X-Pipe.

o0o0o0o i c now, well i mean i've just heard good things, to be honest i just don't wana pay for some cheap exhaust that sounds like a Honda Accord. At idle i want people to think i'm driving a V8.

The V6 X-Pipe doesnt require cutting and welding. The pace setter does.

only way to get a good seal would be to weld it, that is unless your going for the exhaust leak sound, which is ok, but not recommended.

So in theory then, I could get the Mustang Tuning X-pipe and attach the new SLP catback system for a GT to it??? hmm sounds nice, i know everyone's been ravin about the SLP systems, but thats alota money for me, plus install it's like 700 bucks right? 390 SLP on e-bay + 165 X-pipe + Labor 100 = Alota money, DOH!

And does anyone know or have an idea how many horses i will stand to gain...or loose with an exhaust?

one more question...there is an off-road and catted x-pipe, i understand the difference, but do i have to go with the catted version if i'm gettin a catback from the SLP? or can i go with the off-road x-pipe and be fine with the SLP catback. (by fine i mean pass EPA isht and all) cuz it seems the off-road pipe is ALOT cheaper.

Well, you could save money by doing to exhaust work yourself. If you are just going to bolt it up, so long as you have some basic hand tools, a jack, and some jackstands, you could easily do it yourself. I do not know of your mechanic ability, but just a suggestion.

You should be able to get different components so long as the pipe sizes are the same. Just do your homework. As far as catted/offroad, you will not pass emissions with an offroad x-pipe. They are cheaper b/c you are not buying the cats. You would need to buy MIL eliminators to get rid of the check engine light or get a tuner/chip to turn it off. If you have strong emission laws where you are, you need to get the catted, unless you want to buy two x-pipes and swap them when you need to get inspected. I know for v8s, SLP exhaust is modular. They make race pipes to replace the cats when you want offroad, then you have the ability to put cats back on when you need to, but I don't know if they make x-pipes for v6s.

Either way, the bottom line is, you will not pass emissions with an offroad x-pipe, and you would still need the MILs or tuner/chip to get rid of the check engine light. Otherwise, you would not know if something else was wrong with the car, since the light would be on all the time.

Hope this helps.

you live in flroida you dont need cats. and i dont knwo how the slp would sound ona v6 but its gonna be very very loud. I would get something quieter like maybe a dynomax catback or something quiet like that. i highly suggest you do not run the slp on there.

cool, thnx scott.

well aside from the SLP what other exhaust systems do you guyz know that sound like a V8 at idle...and would more horsepower in the engine change the sound of the exhaust?

Well I would say that the different exhaust sounds from a v6 vs v8 answer your question regarding HP affecting exhaust. I mean, usually more HP means more airflow in, and thus out, which would definately affect sounds as the volume of air throughout the exhaust would change.

As far as setups for v8 idle sound go, I am curious about this as well, as I am currently looking to upgrade the exhaust on my other car, the 95 v6 (not sure if I have mentioned this car in this thread or not. I know I have in some other v6 forum threads). I will tell you what I have now and also tell you that it does sound like a v8 at idle, although it is not going down the same road you are looking to go down. Right now, I have 2 flowmasters welded in. We cut the pipes after the cats, and went straight pipe down both sides into the mufflers. I have GT tail pipes (the shop did not want to have to hassle with bending pipe, when they could buy some that were already the correct shape) and 3" chrome tips. It was like $250 installed. I have gotten many compliments, and have fooled several mechanics into thinking it was a v8 until they looked under the hood. it is pretty loud too. My fiance is driving the car now, and when she leaves, I can hear her going down the road from the house. Of course, when you wind it up, the v8 sound goes away and it starts to show its true colors, but I was extremely satisfied with the sound.

Based upon this, a flowmaster catback may be the way to go to get a deep idle tone. I am looking to go with headers and an x-pipe on this one to make it even louder, and improve the performance some (I am currently in the mood to start doing some upgrades on it). Go to mustangexhaust.com and register to get to the exhaust clips. I believe they do have a couple of clips with flowmasters, although not with xpipes, but it should give you some idea. They have other setups on there as well.

Hope this helps.
