rear end leak

Default rear end leak

My oil in my rear axle is leaking its coming from the cover how do i replace the oil once i drain it then re seal the cover. And do i need a special type of oil for my 2000 v6 3.8L.

Check the cover for any interesting dents or anything could be causing it to leak. If its dented or anything, that'll have to be replaced.

You may have to buy a new gasket (i don't know if they've got a gasket though..)

And I'm pretty sure you need a rear end oil..

As far as replacing the oil in it..no clue... could probably google it or something..

On the front of the differential on the driver's side there is a plug that takes the end of a 3/8 drive extension.
It takes two quarts to fill it just under the hole.

The V6 should have a 7.5 with an open differential so it really doesn't matter what type of gear oil you use. Regular 85w-90 gear oil should be fine.

The 8.8 limited slip differentials call for 75w-140 synthetic fluid only. If your rear end calls for this it will have a tag on it saying so.
