Gear question, help!

So im buying 4.10s + a posi+ a diablo tuner, what EXCATLY else do I need to install this set? Also im bringing it to a shop, so Im pretty sure they can supply the lube. I know a different back part is not a must have? any thoughts on them? but to i need anything else? aand also my car has over 100k miles on it, and its auto. will this put TOO much stress on the engine or trans ect...
i have a aftermarket up/low intake mani.+spacer, bigger tb with a spacer, cai,plugs-wires-coil, and exhaust already on if it makes any difference.

Thanks guys, this websight is always a big help. :t:

Make sure you purchase the bearing kit for the gear install.

Yeah, Danimal is right... make sure you get the bearing kit. Personally, since your car is an automatic, I'd go with 4.30's instead of 4.10's but thats just me. And if you're gonna spend the money for a tuner, don't buy a diablosport. I bought one when i first got my car, and ended up returning it, and getting an SCT X3. Main reason is, you can't turn off your rear 02's with the diablo sport. And if you're running an O/R midpipe, i'd almost bet you've got a check engine light on. The only way to get rid of that is either MIL eliminators, or to turn off your rear 02's with a tuner. Just my .02

Im buying all this stuff off americanmuscle.com is there a bearing set on there?? 7.5 rear end not the 8.8
also I dont have the headers/mids. just a cat back, not sure if I want the rest or plan on putting it on in the future.

4.10's and an auto are a perfect combo. Just get the install kit because of your miles and you will be good to go. Or the shop might have them too.

ok sweet. anything else I might need? and any pros/cons on the tuners..under $400 diable/sct/prediter ect...

spike_africa 11-08-2009 01:47 PM

I like SCT because its what my local tuner uses.

Steeda97 11-08-2009 03:47 PM

I like SCT. But my local tuner uses diablo. ugh.

DO NOT go with 4.30's with an auto. I have 4.10s and they are great for driving fast, and or in the city but suck for highway driving. If you do alot of highway driving, go with 3.73's or 3.90's.

Also, if you plan on any type of FI, then go with 3.73's.

krazedcraka09 11-08-2009 05:04 PM

why do they suck for highway driving? gas isnt a huge deal with me, plus when i do go on highways i never do speed limits. does it put more stress on anything ?

rpm's are a little higher than normal and some guys don't like that. Thing is you're at higher rpm with less throttle angle required so you're at a net-zero difference on gas mileage. Noise can be an issue but if you like how your car sounds at around 2700rpm then you'll love it.

Don't worry about it. You're going to love it. Take 4.10's, an install kit (should contain bearings and a crush sleeve, and maybe shims) and 3 bottles of Royal Purple Max Gear or Redline Light Shockproof gear oil. You won't need any additive. You'll need the tuner to adjust your ECU for the gears. After that, just enjoy them. I promise you you will.

exactly. I'm don't dislike the gas mileage thing, I could care less, its just my motor is working harder, and like you said its deafening.

From what I can remember, Going 65 it sits around 2700, and going 70-75 its up to 3 grand.

ive also been trying to get 4.10 gears and tlok. its going to increase torque and ive been told its just too much for the 7.5" rearend on the v6 so maybe you should look into getting an 8.8" rear end swap from a gt

Deathdiesel 12-06-2009 06:24 PM

BAH. Now im considering 3.73s..Because A. I do about 10 miles of highway driving a day, B. I plan on nitrous. Especially if Steedas GT is at 3k around 70-75 then my mpgs are gunna be hangin plus working a good amount more on my motor.

v6'stang 12-08-2009 04:42 AM

pcran4, there's a good gear thread in the General Tech section. Maybe you should read that then come back. It will help you understand the concept of gears more.

spike_africa 12-08-2009 03:26 PM

Gears do not add power. They add a better mechanical advantage over the stock gearing.
