hey guys i purchased a
Mustang White Face Reverse Glow Gauges (94-98 V6)

and i was going to wire it and it says connect to the big Grey wire but in the 98 mustang there is no big Grey wire its a different color would that still be the same? hopefully someone knows what im talking about i dont wanan cut the wrong wire

 

That's the same gauge I have. I don't have the same body style car, but on mine it was the large center wire. You don't have to cut the wire, though. Just strip a small section in the center and solder it to that. Also, before you solder you should test the wire to see when it has power. If it has power when you pull the headlights on, but doesn't have power when the headlights are off then it's the right one.

 

oo thanks man yeah i was gonna stripe a lil off it then clamp it with an electrical clamp and put a electrical tube over it

 

if you have the ability to solder, solder. It creates a much better connection. The clamp thing will work too though if you don't have the ability to solder

 

yeah i got a soldering gun so what i just splice the wire and hold it to see if its the right one then just melt the two together?

 

as long as you use solder, yes

 

But soldering doesn't melt the wires together. What you do is melt solder onto where the wires connect to create the bond. There's a bunch of guides online if you've never done it.

Also, when you're done soldering, remember to wrap the connection with electrical tape or use one of those tubes.

yeah man i no they don't melt together lol just couldn't come up with the right word to describe it


what do u suggest as a grounding place ?

 

also i was wondering if anyone new a website where i can get a new dash mines always had a crack in it since i bought it right where the head light switch is

 

There's really just two options. There's a really large metal bar that goes across the front of the car that passes right behind where the instrument cluster will go. You can drill a hole there and place an anchor to solder to.

OR

There's a small metal bar that intersects with the large one. You can try to squeeze the wire in between the two metal rods and solder it there. It won't be as secure but it'll be a lot less work. The choice is yours.

ok i put it on the metal bar solider it no problem i cut a slice on the wires coating and none of them light up the damn things i hooked it up the a regular 12v battery and it worked so i no its not broken
