Side exhaust
I know i probally am getting bad about these exhaust post but i have yet another question. I was going to buy the MAC catback but i had to buy tires for my new rims instead. I am interested in side exhaust for my 00'.What is the best way to go, custom fabbed f/ a shop or buy a kit off the internet? Whats a good brand for it?

I found the spintechs at spintech.com, would the single left side sound good? ive heard nothing but good from it
|
Dont get a single side exhaust... that would look plain silly. Im pretty sure the point of side exhaust is for the looks, not preformance. So which do you want, the good looks of a side exhaust, or the performance of a rear exit exhaust?
|
Actually most side exhaust perform just as well for the most part. Exhaust doesn't give you much power anyways unless your running a SC/TC or have longtubes.
Get the Roush side exhaust kit. If you get a shop to fab you one it'll look and sound like shit, plus you'll have clearance issues because it'll fall under the side skirt versus being integrated into it like the Roush kit. Don't make your car look like a ricer with some homemade side exhaust. It's cool, but only if done right. |

I'm just saying if you get some Joe Blow muffler shop to do it I don't think you'll like it.
We did that with our '65 and it looked and sounded horrible. So instead we bought a kit from Shelby for it the very next day which was 100x better. |
You can have a local shop fab you up side pipes if you must. Just don't go to a shitty muffler man,midias,etc.. type of place. You need to go to a real exhaust shop.
|
I agree. If you're really set on getting it custom made don't go to any of those muffler shop chains. Talk to someone at a local performance shop and see who they recommend

im going to buy spintechs

anyone know where i can get Cobra R type tips?
|
There are a lot of benefits of going with side exhaust. Most of which your probably not worried about. You don't have to worry about a panhard bar or torque arm, you won't heat up your fuel and have it spill out on the track, and it won't get crumpled when you get rear ended. But sub frame connectors can get in the way, as well as clearance for lifting the car.
I'd get a good muffler, and have a good shop fabricate something for you. I don't know where to get the Cobra R style tips but I believe that they are individual pipes from the left and right banks of the car. |
thx 01FR500 your right, that stuff dosn't matter to me because its my first car and such but thanks for the info

Like ive said im going with spintechs, not a custom fabbed, thanks for all the help

^^^+1
I'm sold on the Spintech system after looking at the site and a phone call with their support guys. They have a package deal to get the exhaust setup+their custom sub-frame's. That system sounds so sick. |
They sound good, but man are a lot of cash.
