A little note for all V6 Owners

I know you have heard it all before.
"Why didn't you get the GT?"
"A V6 Mustang?"
"It's just a V6."

You have it for whatever reason.
MPG
First New Car
Not a mechanical wiz.
No Credit
Bad Credit
Or in my case, I can't afford the insurance for a GT..(not in Germany with E-4 pay)
Etc, etc.

Hear this.

Sure, if you want to overpower GTs, GT500s, Cobras, etc, you may have to invest a small fortune.

Never mod because of others.
Do what you want to your car because you want to.
When doing your exhaust, don't do it for the GT sound...you can't have V8 sound without the V8. But you can have the sound you like.
Make it your V6. And of course if you just have to go the extra mile then by all means have a GT.

But for those who are modding because
"Your little V6 Mustang" comments; people are gonna do what they want.

Just be happy with what you have, and make it your own.

I'm just posting this for the younger guys out there who have buddies hounding them cause they have a V6.

It's better than being the guy knocking your car as he gets a ride to work.:D

MPG
I'm pretty sure I get worse gas mileage than most stock GTs (and I'm WAY slower)

=(

zigzagg321 08-27-2009 02:07 PM

still shoulda got a GT. its not that much more, its not any more complex to fix... it doesnt get that worse of mpgs...

Yup that's been exactly my plan. I got it right before college and I've just decided to hold onto it until I graduate. One more year.

WaterDR 08-27-2009 04:03 PM

I remember when I was home from college once and was driving a car my dad had. It was a brand new, 1990 Camaro RS and it was a V-8, but not the HO type. I was a student at Notre Dame....had no money and was on a full ride scholarship. I was pretty proud of myself and pretty sure I had a good life to look forward to. I worked very hard to get to where I was and the fact that I had 7 brothers and sisters, it was pretty special that my dad actually had that car. I loved driving it and never had much chance with it considering I was away at school most of the time.

I stopped to get gas....some ass-clown was there in an IROC. He was about 10 years older then me and probably lived at home. He looked right at me and actually said "You should have gotten an IROC."

I could not believe that someone could actually be such a dick to say that...to a kid....not knowing me, or my situation.

If it makes you feel better to jab someone because their car is slower then yours or whatever, then you need to re-evaluate yourself.

I have a lot more respect for someone who has a mediocre car and owns it, takes care of their responsibilities etc.. over someone with an amazing car, big-ass loan payment, and lives with their parents.

I am not pointing the finger at anyone....just being general.

Everyone has the right to feel good about what they have especially if they have worked hard for someting, even if it is not much.

SnTBakosFinest 08-27-2009 04:31 PM

I heard "shoulda got a v8" quite a bit..and from a few select people, I sitll do.. but to many of those others... bring whatcha got ;)

My buddies with the really fast cars do nothing but give me props for what I did, because I thought slightly outside of the box here in this town..

Guys that run 7s and 8s are amazed at the fact a v6 mustang can run as well as I have, and then are even more shocked when I tell them "ya, theres a few guys in the country running low 10s on their v6 mustang"

This was my first car that I paid for. I had a 79 ford bronco before it for about 3 months, at 17 I bought this car..

I'm proud its a v6, always have been, don't get me wrong, some day I'll buy a v8 and look to go much faster, but the car looks nice, runs hard, and sounds pretty good too ;)

SeanStang 08-27-2009 06:20 PM

I know I should have got a v8, I guess thats why I don't care when I hear people tell me that lol.

Yeah, my response is usually "yeah.... /sigh"

Everyone gets a GT, our V6's are special :)

Wombozi17 08-27-2009 07:38 PM

Special like riding the short bus?

AGREE
i have mine and yes im adding some mods, but its only like 60 hp. no where near a gt.
And ill have a V6 with a tougher sound but not "a v8 sounding" tune. It will be my V6 tune! you will never have a V8 as a V6! just realize how great your 6 is and how much more money your saving on your parts.
Now im not saying throw a 5,000 dollar SC in there.. but have fun with making it your own! i went from a 88 buick, to a 2000 saturn station wagon to my new V6, AND I LOVE IT, may not be the fastest but you have to remember you are still driving a mustang and it will be faster than most other V6s on the road.

3.8LMustang 09-27-2009 07:40 PM

why not just keep ur v6 and buy a v8 :)

thats what ill be doin

2K7MustangV6 09-27-2009 08:25 PM

because im still gonna be payin off this one for another 2 years or so lol

Deathdiesel 09-27-2009 08:39 PM

Yep pretty much alls that matters to me, is if you keep good care of your ride, and like it. Guys who have a 40k car or whatever and take trash care of it are given it by mommy or daddy. You could have a honda civic for all i care and as long as you keep good care of it and like it, props.

Rumblin_6 09-28-2009 06:59 AM

1st post was nicely said. As for me I actually somewhat "down-graded". Although now I don't look at it like that. I am not a mechanical genius by any means and still ask dumb questions from time to time.

I have had these vehicles at one point or another =

1992 Ford F-150 with a 300 inline 6 - first vehicle:)
1991 Mustang GT - 302 GT40 heads - fun to drive but gas mileage sucked and it needed a lot more work than what I could do.
1993 Ford Ranger 2.3L 4 Cylinder (was my DD while I was working on the Blazer).
1999 Chevy Blazer 4x4 with a transplanted 350 from a Tahoe.

Current:

2003 Mustang V6 - Somewhat stock, needs a lot of work to get it to where I want to be but thats what its all about getting it to where you want it.

I think that as I got older the "need for speed" to an extent deminished. I do enjoy driving it and it is very quick for what it is. Most people that have never rode in it before don't think it can get out of its own way. I think that ultimately it really boils down to the owner and what he or she wants to do with it.

Like many most of my friends have the bigger and better GTs and Cobras but like SnTBakosFinest, they don't give me a hard time and are eager to help. One of my friends in fact is going to help me pull the motor next year if funds are available and is really looking forward to helping. I also think that most whether they want to believe it or not have owned a car similar (small engine) what we all have and once they get the better car they want to start looking down on others because it happened to them.

I am not ashamed of my car and admit its status. It runs like a champ and will be even better when it is finished. Besides its not the car its the journey of making it awesome and the pride and work that goes into it.

Lazerred6 09-28-2009 07:16 AM

I had a similar experience to what water said. I was at a gas station and I pulled into the pump next to a guy with a sn95 GT I picked that pump cause I was like hey another mustang. When I got out I nodded to the guy and he said "hey nice car man but you should have got a GT"

I was a bit insulted so I said "hey dude thanks for the advice but you should go eat a dick"

His jaw dropped a bit, he gave me the finger, got in his car and drove away

I had a shit eating grin on my face the whole way home:smokin:

but not all people fully mod them :smokin:

2K7MustangV6 09-28-2009 12:01 PM

Just because ther are more 6's on the road than GTs doesnt mean anything.. yeah more people ar ebuying mustangs thanks to "cash for clunkers" type deals but still.. I have a V6 and its one of the best looking cars around my town, beats most gts, and my Dads 2010 mustang he got the same day i bought mine looks better than them all! lol

sand1303 09-29-2009 11:24 AM

i hate the "should of got a GT" phrase. not everyone can have what they want. i have a v6 and it is my first mustang i ever owned. my mom and stepdad go to auto auctions all the time and they got it for around 2 grand. so i just made payment to them. i don't have 500 dollars a month for a gt car payment. i want a gt but cant have one right now. so i will love my v6 for how ever long i have it.

nicely stated. I coulda had a gt for cheap but i chose the v6. not as much power i know but my insurance is also cheaper.

dOcV6 10-03-2009 08:02 PM

I couldnt even imaging my insurance payment if i got a GT. hell i payed 300 a month before i got into my accident. Now its 150 a month. Only have my license for a year or two when i got it.

engineman312 10-04-2009 05:00 AM

i had a V6 for 3 years. i got it in the middle of college and worked hard to get it and afford it. i used to hear it a lot, "should've gotten a v8." now with my GT i promise i'll never say that to someone. if anything i may ask why they got a sixer, and let them explain the situation to me. however, if the person is under 22, i'll never ask it because its usually for one of the more common reasons like affordability or whatever.

2K7MustangV6 10-06-2009 03:35 PM

yeah, im always going to keep my 6, i plan on buying a v8 later but for now, i plan on sinking all my extea cash on upgrading my V6. Hands down everyone i talk to say they love upgrading V6's rather then moding a v8. Just plane more possibilities

lol you have to admit modin a v6 is more fun. When you start at the bottom and work your way up you feel better about it. I know moding a v8 gives even more power than what we are working for but when you are on a budget and such its pays to have a v6. I have heard a few people say they like my car, then ask if its a v8 (as if its not noticable) and find out its not and say "oh nevermind" like dicks.. but more people say they like my 6 and the mods im getting. and as for the 8 comment.. that guy can eat $hit and die...

LilMissLayla 10-07-2009 10:00 AM

Shoulda Woulda Coulda... but didn't. I'm proud of my lil sixxer, dammit.

Just moved into a new place so I don't know if I'll be getting a Mach anytime in the near future.

engineman312 10-07-2009 10:08 AM

i was very proud of my sixer. matter of fact i was in the process of making it into a 4.2L engine. it was gonna be epic. i totaled the car about a week before i was gonna buy a new engine.
