Flowmaster Question

I recently installed a Flowmaster Series-30 on my mustang and was wondering how much Horsepower and Torque it added. I have the stock pipes.

zigzagg321 07-07-2009 05:23 PM

maybe 1 hp and .5 torque. a muffler isnt going to do anything but make it sound different. you may have actually lost power.

Squishy125 07-07-2009 06:15 PM

So basically what your saying is I need to get new cats?

The cats are the same deal.

SeanStang 07-07-2009 06:53 PM

Don't upgrade exhaust for power, do it for sound. Doing it for power will just disappoint you.

Squishy125 07-07-2009 06:54 PM

So whats the point of the cat besides passing state inspection and emissions tests?

rkaz 07-07-2009 07:15 PM

All I know is you take them off a gt with flowmaster 40's and you got a loud as fuck car.

that's the whole point of them... emissions

do research on nitrous if you wanna make your car faster. that is the cheapest and easiest. Or get some 4.10 gears in your diff.

Squishy125 07-08-2009 01:28 PM

I drive a stick so im getting 3.55 or 3.75 and rebuilding the rear end if im getting any gears.

whitestang04 07-08-2009 01:41 PM

The cheap bolt ons don't do much for our cars.

dont bother with 3.55s and you mean 3.73s.

Squishy125 07-09-2009 01:21 PM

ok why not the 3.55 gears and ya I ment 3.73 sorry.

spike_africa 07-09-2009 09:08 PM

Its not worth the money for the small improvement over stock gears. If you are going to do it, then get 3.73's at the minimum.

as far as base power gains, not anything noticable but if you get good headers with high flow cats and a descent muffler, coupled with intake and a tune then youll get more gain with it all together, cleaner burn, better milage, more power, but just throwin a flow on there is just gonna change the sound.

SnTBakosFinest 07-27-2009 10:26 PM

exhaust/headers won't do shit for ya. The tune is where the power is.

I make more power off no cats, magnaflows, and shorties simply because i'm stroked and run nitrous...

Streetable power? Stick another 4.3 against me and it'll be about an even race.

You do this for sound, if you live in a smog exempt place, get rid of the cats and you'll probalby be happy.

BTW flowmasters are some of the most restrictive mufflers around...I'd recommend someone like borla, bassani, or magnaflow.

nothing but WIN in this thread. Great advice from the boyz for the n00bs. Take heart especially to the notes from guys with really high post counts.

What's your complaint?

r3dn3ck 07-28-2009 01:15 PM

can't you tell honest positive feedback when you read it?

SnTBakosFinest 07-28-2009 01:17 PM

Lol no. I just figured sarcasm.

LT headers, 2.5" dual exhaust, h-pipe, thrush mufflers dumped (dynomax makes them and the sound identical to flowmasters)

SnTBakosFinest 07-28-2009 03:18 PM

It'll probably sound good (idk) but I doubt that LTs will help out significantly, power wise anyways..

No way a straight through muffler sounds like a chambered muffler. Thrush is made by hooker isn't it? or is it flowtechs off brand?
