Engine Break in Periods?

Ok as sum of yall know. My stang is in the process of being rebuild and being bored 0.030 over. Just wanted to ask if there different ways to breaking in a motor? Cuz the shop that i took it to says that the way they bore out the engine is a totally different way that others might do. With this bore they said that i just have to let the car idle for about 20 mins and then change the oil. After that drive the car for about 100 miles and then the break in period is done. And on the other hand sum other break in periods last for about 500 miles or is that for new cars only?

plz help

thanx in advance

I would say do what they say but to be on the safe side take it easy for the full 500. Patience is a virtue

stupidest. engine. rebuild. EVER.

crzypny232 12-05-2008 12:08 PM

they want you to change the oil in case there are any metal filings hiding in there...

3.8LMustang 12-05-2008 12:16 PM

^^^ya thats wat they told me

but i wonder if i would need to change it again after the 100 miles of driving

Lazerred6 12-05-2008 12:20 PM

You shouldn't have to change it after 100 the change after 20 min is because a newly rebuilt engine will have edges that will get ground down that you can't even see and 20 min of running should get it ready to go

shouldnt no.

i went 1k on mine easy just to make 100% sure, but 500 miles should be enough. highway driving doesnt count as much it needs to be stop and go city for it to work in IMO.

and 500 miles is just a sugguestion. i had a tuner tell me once it is runing well it is ready to go.

3.8LMustang 12-05-2008 12:29 PM

alright well hopfully ill get it b4 i go to San Antonio, so i could do about +100 miles of stop and go in the city

Easy children... We all agree that it wasn't the best thing to go with the single-port, but that's what he could afford, so shut up. :)
