Default exhault

Alrite so am new to cars this is my first one so I dont know to much but ,I always taught all mustangs had dual exhault. But my 2000 v6 only has one exhault and iv been kind of worried about that .So I brought it in for a oil change the other day and they lifted the car up and I wus looking underneath it , and like this is kind of hard to explain but where the mid pipes are it looks like its suppose to be 2 exhaults ,but at the end of the mid pipes where the exhaulst brake off and one goes to the right and the other to the left it looks like the last owner just sealed of the right exit and just left the left one connected .I wus looking at it and it reallly looks like its suppose to be 2 exhaults because all the things that are holding the left exhault are one the right side but there just not holding anything.

So my question is are V6 suppose to have 2 exhault or just one,and if it is just suppose to have one what i would gain from adding a dual exhault.and if it is suppose to have 2 what could happend if i dont get that fixed .

I dont feel like asking at any shops out here cus i think there all theifs trying to hustle me because iv gone in there askin for simple things and they see that i dont know about cars so they tell me a bunch of things are wronge and broken when its really 1 or 2 simple things .Example theres this litle rubber connector on my gas tank that was broken ,i brought it to this shop and the guy told me i had to buy a new tank because they didnt sell the rubber peice and there was noway to fix it and that it wus gonna cost me like a thousand dollers to buy the tank plus labor... well i brought the car to my dad he went to autozone bought this sealer and fixed it for me only cost me about 10 dollers and took him like 10 minutes to do it , so I figured id get some knowledge before i take it to a shop so i can atleast pertend to know what am talking about and hopefully they wont try to play me

V6s come stock from the factory with one exhaust pipe exiting on the drivers side of the car, mildly pointed downward. The mid-pipe that you're talking about is fine. It's called a y-pipe, and takes the exhaust from the headers (the first set of pipe coming off of the side of the actual engine) and ramming it all into the one pipe. Not the most efficient thing created, but it works. So don't worry, nothing out of the ordinary seems to have been done to your car, and it sounds like a basic v6.

You can free up to 15hp (in the engine) by changing the y-pipe to either an x-pipe or h-pipe (which are different shapes of mid pipes one looking like and x and one like and h), then you can get a Mustang GT catback exhaust system (which connects to the end of the mid-pipe), and then have you're dual exhaust. It's not an over the top power mod, and most people just do it to make their cars sound more aggressive.

Here are the three mid-pipes I mentioned...

H-pipe

x-pipe

and of course what you mentioned you have, the y-pipe (stock on factory v6's)

Mind you on Mustangs since the exhaust exits on the drivers side, the image of the y-pipe should be reversed with the longer end on the left side.

The difference between the H pipe and they X pipe are that the H is shaped like the letter 'H' and the X pipe is shaped like the letter 'X'. An H pipe will give you more of a deeper sound, wherein an X will make a deep sound, but a little more raspy than an H. X pipes also make more power than an H.

I don't know how much it would cost to have them installed. It depends on the shop and the area. I paid $570 to have a full exhaust installed (long tube headers, catted X pipe, and Loudmouth straight throughs). I would say in the ball park of $300-400 if I had to guess. It might not even be that much.

an X is pointless on a v6 because its an even firing engine unlike a V8 so there's no need for a crossover. You will see very minimal gains from exhaust on a v6 (so minimal you won't notice, its just for better sound)

Its up to you and what you want to do with the, its not up to us as we don't know what your plans are. Me I would have no problem doing some mods if I wasn't selling it or was not getting rid of it for some time.
