Default Found a motor have questions

I found a 01 v6 drop out motor on ebay and the seller lives in the same town as me I just want to know what types of snags I would run into if I tried to put it in my 98 after I mod it quite a bit (I/H/C). The price he is asking is 450 but if I meet him in person and the auction doesn't go through I may be able to get him down from that the motor has 84K on it but I plan on taking it apart and rebuilding it with forged internals and putting it in my car at a later date

this is not a I want crazy power project this is a fun project not interested in a v8

You would run into about the same issues doing a splitport swap and a cam would give you, as those are the only two parts being upgraded with just a motor swap. As far as the forged internals, if you're stroking it out a bit you'll want to check with the manufacturer.

I was just wondering if I would have any problems bolting it to the trans I figure there shouldn't be because it's the same trans

as for upgrades I plan on getting the stage 2 powerpack for the 99+ 3.8 form supersixmotorsports.com and the split port swap kit that they have becuse it will give me all the Misc. bits that I need. The internals will be for the boost I plan on in the future and I also plan on putting some LT on before the engine goes in

It would be $$ but I plan on it being a long hobbieish project I don't have a deadline

it's posible that I would go .060 over and put in a 4.2 crank and everything else to go with it.

Prolly not a bad price if everything is in good shape. going 4.2L when you rebuild it is worth it. go forged and dont go cheap on anything. once a 4.2L is forged you can run some much power it is crazy.

I'd like to see how much I can get from it n/a but have the option to slap a power adder on it when I come to the realization that n/a just isn't enough

What I really want is for my car to be running 300rwhp that the engine is totally capable of containing without alot of strain then I just need an 8.8 rear and maybe a new trans and drive shaft cause mine looks like **** that would top off my project.

the splitports can take up to 350rwhp on stock internals fine, even for Daily driving. you wont hit 300rwhp N/A yet, not enough aftermarket for the motor.

most with a 3.8L built get 220-230rwhp and a 4.2L is 245-255rwhp. this is N/A splitports.

Maybe a few pounds of boost then

so with a 4.2 I can run a small amount of boost safely without forged internals?

I'd go forged anyway just fyi

Sounds like a good one to walk away from then.

Yeah, you'll have no problems bolting up to a stock trans.

Speaking of which, before you lay down the cash for a new trans, check out this link.

Hope you have fun with whatever direction you choose!

yup as long as you dont go over 350rwhp. which would be easy with a 4.2L, that's why you would need to lower the boost.

tranny will be fine as well. and rear end. T-lock w/ 3.73's or 4.10's is all that is needed.

If I was running boost I'd skip the t-lok and jump straight for a Detroit Truetrack... You won't break that thing anytime soon. Definitely beefier than t-lok.
