The 4r70w for the v6 holds 13.9 quarts, 12.8 if its a GT. AODE uses 12.5. I think both of you guys need 13.9, but the OP needs regular Mercon fluid and Redrum needs Mecon V.

You will never get that many quarts out when you do a pan drop and filter swap. Your looking at more like 8 or 9 from what I remember. The tranny and converter will still hold a lot of fluid which is totally fine your still replacing most of the fluid.

This would be the time to add a tranny cooler and do the jmod since you will be already looking at the valve body.

I never changed the fluid when I had an auto, but can't you turn the converter to get some more of that fluid out?

Edit: I beleive as the OP you can change the title.

last time i dropped the pan and changed the transmission fluid and filter i had a large enough bucket under to catch everythin then i marked it when i was getting ready to refill it and dumped the old into another container and filled it up with new fluid to the mark. then you just add whatever you have in the bucket and you will be replacing the exact same amount.
