gas milage

what kind of gas milage are you other v6 guys getting...im only avergaging around 13mpg and that not even driving it hard...i drive mostly city but was just wondering...

doobie 08-31-2008 07:26 PM

if you're driving mostly city, i can see how 13mpg is happening. if its a lot of stop and go traffic or stoplight to stoplight stuff then the power to weight ratio of the V6 is what kills your fuel economy. if i drive my car really easy (probably 85% of my driving is highway) then i can manage close to 25mpg. once i add more city mileage in, it drops dramatically. i took my car to chicago in june and killed 3/4 of a tank of gas in one night.

Must See 08-31-2008 07:39 PM

13 mpg!!! that seems kind of low. Im averaging 20mpg but thats a mix of highway and city driving.

mustangvsix 08-31-2008 11:36 PM

geeze! In my v6 I used to see 17/20 for city driving and 25+ on the highway.
Even in my cobra I get 18/20 in the city and 27 on the highway(just recently on my trip to school).
Sounds like you either need to lighten up on the pedal some, maybe go through do some routine maintenance( air filter, oil change, fuel filter, clean the fuel injectors, spark plugs) 13mpg is pretty crappy.
Also maybe try sea foaming the motor, could help clean out a lot of built up gunk with in the motor.

deputy2313 09-01-2008 12:48 PM

done the seafoam when i got it about 3 months ago...just put a K&N air filter, need to get the oil change, but 95% of all my driving is stoplight to stoplight

River 09-02-2008 06:58 AM

I built a vaporizer to go on mine (2001) but still could get only 21-22 city, I replaced the fuel filter (filthy) and show a little better than 25, I have a two mile hill to go over to get to town, I am going to order the CAI this morning. Will have to eat it on the K@N filter I put in.
The other mod was to put magnaflow muffler and bigger pipe. Work was done by a former racer, he said leave off the duels so I let him have his way with it.
When I bought the car from my son, it was a dog, not enough power for even an old foggy like me. I like the car now.
So there may be things you could do to get better mileage, still it seems to me 13 is pretty low for a v6, maybe a lazy o2 or something or something else wrong?

deputy2313 09-02-2008 07:59 AM

gonna get the fuel filter replaced this weekend a long with a few other things....I'll let you know how it goes

Lazerred6 09-02-2008 08:03 AM

I average 24

big question is 100%gas or 10% ethanol? i lose 5-6mpg in my xion when i have to put ethanol in it.

your car should get no lower than 18mpg even in town and about 25mpg highway depending on mods and lead foot. if your lower than that get a tune up and try and figure out what's wrong.

i get 15-16mpg in town and 20mpg highway. and that's with me loaping around town. and flooring it when i get pissed at people.

Mr. Zip 09-02-2008 08:38 AM

I stay about 19mpg. The cooler the weather and the less I press the pedal it improves, but still no more than 21mpg.

+2

i went an entire tank of just city getting 18 and then another tank of mashing around all the time and getting 15-16mpg. I only have dual magnaflows

v6'stang 09-02-2008 11:00 PM

i've been getting 18-19 a lot lately. i use to get 20-21 (both are combo of city and highway) best i've ever got on highway was around 26, i was thrilled...nvr saw it again tho, lol.

King 09-02-2008 11:22 PM

When I had my sixer, I was averaging 21 city and 27 highway. With the Mach it's 13 city and 17 highway.

PHENOIX75 09-05-2008 03:22 PM

Damn 13 is bad. I get around 20 in the city during the summer. Less in the winter cause of the defrosters thanks to the conv. I can squeeze 29 to 30 out on the highway. Is yours a auto or 5spd?

3.8LMustang 09-05-2008 10:42 PM

well on the highway i get 20mpg n in the city i get like 15mpg but all thats gonna change when i get the gears :( but its worth it though :D

"and my stang has about 185,000 miles or more on it :( dont know cuz my odometer stoped about four years at about 132,000 miles

jey 09-06-2008 12:06 PM

07 V6 coupe 5 speed manual. K&N filter mustang GT muffler. Average 20 to 23 city/highway. Open highway, interstate type get right at 30mpg. Thats 70+ miles per hour.
Almost traded for a Bullitt until gas went out of sight, this little V6 is just fine.

King 09-06-2008 01:28 PM

I would've gone with the Bullitt instead of the sixer, but that's personal preference I guess. The day after I picked up my Mach, another Ford dealer called me to tell me I could've gotten an '08 Bullitt for $2,000 cheaper. But whatever, I like my pony.

PColav6 09-06-2008 01:51 PM

About 18 city (lots of lights), 28 highway. 13 mpg is too low man..something either wrong with your car or with your foot.
Do you run the AC on full blast? lol

Leonide 09-07-2008 09:43 PM

my fuel mileage feels like it's crap...but i figure with the way i drive, i get about 15 - 19 MPG city, and 19 - 24 highway.

Your city mileage won't change much with gears. You'll be shifting more though.

Not sure how that would affect an auto trans. car.

EDIT: When I lived in the middle of nowhere I'd get about 22 mpg regularly... now that I'm driving two miles to work through heavy city traffic, it's dropped to about 15-16. That's with a lead foot and a manual, rolling on 275/40R17 all-season tires.

deputy2313 09-09-2008 08:30 PM

yeah i have an automatic...Im a little heavy on the gas i guess before ive eased up and only accelerated when i need to get by some one and it has improved to 15 ish...i still need to replace my fuel filter, i remember reading when i got the car that the previous owner had left some paperwork in it about it needed to be replaced and he opted out of it. so i will do that this weekend

Good idea, dirty fuel filters are cheap and easy to replace, and are often overlooked by people. You should be able to use one for 30k miles before replacing again... just fyi.

deputy2313 09-11-2008 06:49 PM

cool thx for the info
