Default CAI ?

How often should I clean up my intake? I have a bbk and I have not clean for about 10 months or so. How do I know I have to replace the filter? i wash my filter with the K&N intake kit.

K&N always says their filters last something like 50,000 miles before they need to be cleaned but I'd clean it every 10k or so.
