some fun on 43

i just got my 02 mustang(v6) and my buddy got an 06 monte carlo(N/A v6) and we decided to see who was faster on interstate 43. we ended up not being able to race because of traffic but still had some fun however i was flying up a hill in the passing lane getting ready to pass my buddy when he had slow done for an 05+ gt. i slowed down let my buddy get in my lane and we both pass the gt and i dont think the he stomped on it but he got pissed and threw on his high beams and i took off. I dont know anything about that gen of mustang but did i outrun this gt in an v6. the only mod i have is a cai. i really feel dumb asking this because he probaly didnt even try but i kno if i was him i would have gunned it

Senior_LARK_LARK 07-12-2008 12:51 AM

well maybe its because not all mustang owners drive their cars like douche bags!

INtZ 07-12-2008 01:24 AM

y would you buy a gt mustang or just a 2 door sports car in general if your not going to open it up every once and a while

3.8LMustang 07-12-2008 01:31 AM

na i dont think u outran the gt, if u continued speeding, i bet that he would have caught up to you if he would had floored it as soon as yall past him

you didn't outrun a GT thats for sure haha the guy wasn't even trying. The guy didn't try because either 1) he didn't want to risk the chance of dieing or killing someone. 2) no one is going to make that risk when there up against a v6/fairly stock v6 since they know they will win. Save it for the track and not the interstates.

He probably does open it every once in a while, doesnt mean he has to try to race a car half his speed at every chance he gets. He probably has common sense and doesnt want to race around an interstate. He probably saves it for the track.

Lazerred6 07-12-2008 10:55 AM

He would have beat you like a red headed step child at half throttle

whats a red headed step child??

Steeda97 07-12-2008 02:02 PM

Gas is expensive and I don't waste it on punks driving recklessly.

dOcV6 07-12-2008 08:29 PM

every time im behind a gt i try to fuck with them but they never do. they must look in there rear veiw mirrow and see the hood and say its not worth it.

Ill give you major points for being honest, but yeah, racing around on publish streets and highways is a pretty good way to get you or someone else killed.

i hope your survive your teenage years. lol

Well, now, that was intelligent. You must be a Nobel Prize winner with that logic. So, now, let me ask you a question? What the hell are you supposed to do with a GT? Race it everywhere you go? Risk an accident, getting hurt, hurting someone else, or just looking like a dumb-ass racing a kid with a 180 hp car?

Newsflash! A GT is not a race car.

So, what do you have to loose? If you wreck then what? You loose your $1500 car? Your parents yell at you? Well, some of us have wive's, children, reputations, and responsibilities. Some of us don't appreciate ass-clowns like you racing on public roads.

Know what I do when I see kids racing? I call the police with plate numbers.

Grow up, before you hurt someone or worse. Take it to the track and realize that most of us don't have anything to prove and too much to risk by racing....especially a kid in a V-6 Mustang.

Wombozi17 07-13-2008 09:00 AM

haha, thats pathetic. Now his little friend joined up to voice the same idea. A mustang GT isnt a racecar... its just a car. settle down.

Has there been a single person that we have praised on this forum for street racing?

wheeler 07-13-2008 11:33 AM

sit back n tell me that when u were 16 u wouldnt hvae done it........

INtZ 07-13-2008 11:33 AM

i understand what we we did was stupid. i would have much rather gone to Pittsburgh raceway park and done a proper drag race but they don't allow 16 year old kids on the track and its not free. this was my first time going out and street racing and we ended up not racing anyway because there were to many people out on the usually empty stretch of road. we were only on the road for less than 5 miles in each direction. when we thought the roads were clear enough that's when we opened up our cars and when we caught up to the gt i passed him and slowed down back down to the speed limit and got ready to get off at our exit. the only reason i speed away from him was because he was blinding me with his high beams. o and i never said the gt was a race car i was just saying i would assume the gt would be faster than me in my base model mustang but i see from your responses he would have left me in the dust and he clearly wasn't trying to show off.

Neither of you were worth his gas or time. If you had a worthy car, he might have opened it up. Not trying to insult you, I drive a sixer and wouldn't be worth his time either.

When i was 16 I drove a kia sportage and was damn glad to even have a car that ran. Racing people was the farthest thing from my mind. Of course this was before every kid had seen the fast and furious and thought every car was a race-car. Consider yourself lucky to have a decent newer first car at 16 and try to stay safe long enough to enjoy it.

Listen to him. I'm 19 years old so i'm somewhat close to your ages. Either grow up now, or end up in the newspapers.

Lol....

Dumbassery is usually unintentional due to ignorance

Asshattery is the intentional removal of wisdom in guise of dumbassery

:D

ya know usually when younger people come on here and start talking about racing and somone calls them a dumbass they become all unglued and start crying and throwing out insults.

you guys are all right.

thnx Jack. i really didn't mean for people to get all pissed off i was just curious and like i said i don't normally street race and would have rather taken it to P.R.P. (Pittsburgh raceway park) but we couldn't

Hey, we were all kids once....but that is not an excuse. We all do stupid things and you know what? Someone jumped my ass too for stupid things I did too when I was young. Being young is no excuse....it just puts things in perspective.

Otherwise, we would all still be pooping our diapers....after all, we were all babies once too.

Racing has no business on the streets.

Seriously, what does it accomplish? That a 200 hp car is faster then a 190 hp car? What do you win? What do you get to show for it? Is there a prize? A trophy? A medal? Sure, there is heart pounding and it is fun. We all know why people do it....shit....street racing has been around for years. Just consider the alternatives and take it to a track. It is much more fun on a track anyway.

I respect you guys for comming here....speaking up...and taking it all in. No one is bashing you, per se...just street racing. You are both welcomed members of this site so far as you contribute and a little healthy street racing debate never hurt anyone.

I see nothing wrong with a little spirited driving within the law and certainly within common sense. We have all goosed it a time or two....just keep it under control....well under control.

hendrixinmyhead 07-13-2008 07:08 PM

Dunno, I'm 19, had the mustang for 2 years now.. wrecked it once...new suspension and rear end was about 7 grand, and a thousand dollar deductible out of my pocket.. wasn't fun at all.. and i was going to work that day

Not to mention, the wonderful way my insurance sky rocketed...

But hell, I think now I'll give even a lightly modded GT a run for its money.. still won't do it on a street though, I'd hate to run over future mustang enthusiast little timmy or smack into the back of some ridiculously large lifted truck...

Street racing isn't much to brag about, theres nothing in it, you can't really take a whole lot of pride in it, and its a dangerous thing.. I'd much rather be at a track, get my timeslip, and rub it in peoples faces..

I'm all for opening it up on a empty freeway late at night.. not too much..but..here in so cal..everyone drives 90...so..

Lazerred6 07-14-2008 05:19 AM

If you want the rush of racing and you want guys here to respect you for it find a group near you that meets and does auto crosses it may seem a little expensive at first after you do it once you will probably be hooked and it will be totally worth it for you. In autoX horse power matters but I beat a guy in a 320hp 400 f/lb volvo in my 150hp 215 f/lb mustang.

im acctually a fan of autocross myself i've never tried it but it looks like a ton of fun and i think if i were to stiffen the suspension a little my pony would do alrite

Lazerred6 07-14-2008 11:53 AM

I'm telling you from experience I did a drag in a 400whp camaro and that does not even compare to the amount of fun I have autoxing my little sixer.

Drag race = a few secs of raw power in a straight line (depends on the car) compared to a miniute or more (on a good track) of crazy turns bursts of acceleration and sudden stops in an autoX

Lazerred6 07-14-2008 12:00 PM

actually the group by me is planning an event at a drag strip that will use the strip as the beginning of the course so they will take our 1/4 mile time and then we keep going for the rest of the track it's like a 2 for 1 and the entry cost is supposed to be under 50$ and we get 3 or 4 runs.

juancarlos91 07-14-2008 01:01 PM

I just turned 17 a bit over a month ago and i guess i can relate a bit more to ya'll . The thing about street racing is one way or another it costs $ to do it. Either you waste gas, get in an accident, blow something in your engine, wear out your tires, or luckout and have a little pebble strike your windshield at 90mph. Personally, i try to stay away from it for those reasons. also, because i know whats outhere. i.e. cops, faster cars, other people. I wouldnt want to be the kid who goes to jail for racing in a v6 car...its not my thing..

but idk man, whatever works for you...i guess you have to learn to value your car and yourself a bit more to put racing out of your mind. Im not gonna say that i dontspeed or take a risk everynow and then, but i do do it where im safe. my2cents :)

Ok, here's a scenario. You 2 guys fly by me on the highway and call it a win. Weeee. Then let's get to the first stop light. I have a stock 04 GT. U 2 guys are gonna be hearing a 1st gear chirp, then a big ass 2nd gear squeel, then a nice fat 3rd gear chirp all while seeing my chrome Mustang bumper inserts, then I let off and you go flying by, Is that a win? No, because I was not stupid enough to excced the speed limit by that much. You heard the power of the GT, not that impressive by most of the guys on this forum, but You would have been whooped to at the very least a few miles over any speed limit for that road. And, Yes even with my stock GT I would have walked you past 140 miles per hour..

Most street races are won in the first 60 to 100 Ft. Or 2 or 3 gears. :smokin:
