Default Spontnious Revving?

The last two days my 02 v6 has been weird. It normally idles at about 1100 rpm, but lately it's been acting up. Whenever my ac compressor stops rotation the revs drop below 1k to about 800-900rpm, then when the compressor resumes rotation it jumps to almost 2000rpm. The cars feels almost ready to stall out at about 900rpm, so I'm sure this isn't supposed to happen. My idler pulley and belt were replace about 1k miles ago, so it's not them. What could cause the problem?

Now im no mechanic, but your car should idle between 600 and 1,000 rpm. Its higher when your running your A/C, but it shouldn't be THAT high.

really? well, it's always been about that, and that might be another underlying problem. But it's the jump in revs that worries me, and it's the most prominant problem...

1100 is a high idle.

however the fact that it goes up with the air compressor is completly normal.

My 00 GT did the same thing, it would feel like it was going to stall but then reved itself back up. Mine would die out whrn I was going highway speeds and pressed the clutch to downshift. the whole care just died!!! never did get it looked at, I traded it in for my 07. so i guess I am not really helping u right now. sorry

When you come to a stop, and you depress the clutch does it idle up with the AC off?

ac off and the car idles smoothly.... it only reacts when i turn on the ac and th higher the ac is the worse it gets. Does that mean the compressor is going out?

take off and clean the IAC. It should be mounted on the back passenger side of your upper intake manifold.

could also be the problem with idleing to high. 800-1k is about right for these cars.

would that still be a problem if it only acts up when the ac is on?
