Newbie needs help...
Hey everyone, I'm new and thought I'd just drop in and say hey. I've got a 1999 V6 3.8l Ford Mustang. It's cherry red, and stock. That, I'd like to change. But I have a few questions before I go investing all of my money into it, that maybe you all could help me with.
First, blackout panels. The ones meant for the '99 GT would also fit on my V6, correct? If so, then would I be able to pull the GT logo and insert the 3.8l logo instead?
My second question is more of a quality question than anything. It's not a product currently sold on AmericanMuscle.com, but I was curious if anyone has any opinions on the Pypes Y-pipe 'true-dual' exhaust. Good, bad? Worth the money? Any help on that one is much appreciated.
And my last question involves a tiny problem I've noticed. Being the typical mustang owner, I've tested my cars capabilities quite a few times. Something I've noticed when done "testing" the car is a burning smell. It first happened after a revving contest, and it smelled like burnt plastic or some thick rubber. But no tires were burnt out on, and no belts looked damaged. Now I notice that even after relatively short drives it makes a similar smell. Does anyone have any reccommendations as to what I should check?
Thanks,
King

welcome! as far as the black out panel look on ebay for a vinyl version or paint it on yourself like I did. The plastic ones from the GT's are way overpriced, in my eyes. For exhaust there are a million threads on this and there is a sticky at the top of the V6 tech page, so read that and it will give you an idea of some popular exhausts for the V6. also check out 3.8mustang.com for alot of V6 info. Hope that helps some.

Saw one on ebay for $20, is it worth it? A good/bad buy? How does it compare to the real blackout panel? I heard it puffs up some like the real one, is this true?

I didn't have to break the clutch in, because it's never been replaced, and it's nowhere near to being a new car at all. It's a '99 with 120k. so the clutch is already broken in, for sure.
And any word on the blackout panel would be great.

A few pics: no worries, side scoops are white, not black.

I originally bought the one off ebay. The vinyl is good quality and the pieces are cut like they should be, I just had a pain in the butt time trying to get it to wrap around the edges. I ended up giving up because I couldn't get it the way I wanted(many have though) so I just went a head and painted it. I like the paint more, because paint is truly seamless but it is also permanent. My car has a very retro old mustang style to it, so I knew I would always want the black out panel, if you are going to want it forever, then I say paint it, it is just as cheap, possible cheaper if you do it yourself like i did.

yes you are, although the time is wrong. I now use a Canon Rebel Xt, Those 1st two photos are HDR photos, which is like 5 pictures put together, to create such a cool look.
King - I painted mine with flat black paint from autozone. It is automotive spray paint. If you can sand, then you can do the prep work, if you can use tape, then you can tape off all the area that you don't want paint. The painting isn't that hard, it is just nice even coats. Usually about 3 does the trick. It really isn't that hard, if you are really worried then I guess don't try it. I had only painted my spoiler before, so I was pretty nervous since this part of the car you can't really remove, but i figured hey if i screw it up big time, then I sand it off and try again, I mean you have to learn from your mistakes right?

I don't know what it adds time wise, but you sure are anything but fast. My best pass up here was a 17.459 at like 87mph....so it's not fast. But If I wasn't sleeping on the line and hadn't missed a shift, I don't doubt I could've been high 16s. It was my first and only time up to Bandi, so I wasn't too upset about it.

Hey, this is a little off-topic, but so was that little "my car is better than your car" shpeel, so I'll just throw this question out there.
I was wondering about my Exterior Paint Color and it said E8. What color is that? I've tried looking it up, but no site has a color code chart.
...Help?
