The proper way to break-in the new engine?
What is the proper way to break-in the new engine? There is no mention of the procedure whatsoever on the owner manual. Usually the car factory would recommend not to rev over certain PRM, drive carefully, avoid towing, etc. But I've heard a lot of people saying the proper way to break-in the new engine is to drive it like you stole it. So, which way is correct?

I have a new 4v and the shop told me to drive it easy the 1st 500miles then give it an oil change, then 1000 miles give it another oil change. After the 1st 500 and oil change you can stomp on it. It makes sense to take it easy until after you get the 1st oil change.

yeah, you really dont want to be stomping on the car when you first have it. you dont have to drive like a grandma, but i wouldnt drive it like i stole it either. I would drive a little spirited untill i got past 5000 miles. Also i would switch out all fluids to full synthetics at around 5000 miles.

There are no instructions because you don't have to do anything. Just get in it and drive...assuming you are talking about a new car.
You won't find anything in the manual and the salesmen won't tell you anything either. What Venom described was what you had to do on cars about 20 years ago, but the rings/seals on new motors don't need anything special. No oil change either after 1000 miles...just follow what the book states.
Besides, ever seen what people do on test rides? Chances are that whatever car you buy has been slammed-on anyway.

BTW, new, custom motors are different. In thoses cases, do what the shop says.
I have driven in the last 15 years probaly 25 new cars. I used to get a new company car every-other year PLUS what I have bought for myself and never went easy on any of them from the get-go. Just drive it the way you would normally....I mean, no brake-stands, but you get the point.
