Default 3.8 potential

is it possible to get a 99-04 3.8L manual to run at best a 14.5 with NO power adders?

Highly unlikely...the best I ran with an auto was a high 16.

the best thing to do is run flowmasters 40 series and hollow out the cats...I done mine this way and running against a few trucks. Im also running H pipe about to run X to see if there is a major change. This weekend im running againts an SRT10 last weekend I ran a SS camaro and only lost by two car links. So yea it does give the v6 some power.

You can run 14.5 all motor with traction gears and some mods.

4.10 gears, trac-lok differential (31 spline), 31 spline axles, drag radials or 315 street tires, headers, midpipe, catback, intake, dyno tune. May get you there, otherwise you may need to do cams.

CAM its OHV not OHC

but yea 14.5 is very do-able with no power adder

your car is a mod motor, the 4.6 cobra and GT are over head cam motors aka OHC, they have the cams in the heads, the cobra has 4 the GT has 2. the 3.8lv6, much like the 5.0l has an over head valve configuration, it has 1 cam and pushrods.

so when buying a cam, or cams

you buy
1 cam for a 3.8
2 cams for a GT 4.6
4 cams for a cobra 4.6

got it?

You didn't try hard enough then.

customstang: Good advice but he won't need the headers or the 31 spine axles. If he's going to run slicks he should go and get a 8.8" rear out of a GT.

WikidStang: If you lost to an SS by only two car lengths the SS driver blows. As far as hollowing out the cats eh at this point it's not that great of a gain except in your mind.

You can get a 99+ manual into the mid 14's with a good driver, traction, gears, bolt-ons, and a tune. Throw in a nice custom N/A cam some P&P heads and intakes you'll break into the low14's to high 13's N/A.

BTW you'd prob run faster w/o the 20s on. But hey, it is only a sixer so i guess it comes down to style before performance to some guys. Not to flame or anything just telling you.

I guess if it was my car and I was running slicks, I would want the heavier duty axles to handle the abuse, so I wouldn't come home on a trailer. Even though he's not making as much power as my V8, any time you keep the tires from spinning puts all of that torque on the axles. Heck people are breaking stock axles on Mach 1's with street tires...

And the headers would be one of the last, along with the cam, depending on how much money he wants to spend.

EDIT: and ya he should get a 8.8" differential

99+ exhaust manifolds flow well enough for up to 350rwhp. He won't be making that n/a...

And he won't need the 31 spines trust me. Not yet.

My friends o4 V6 has Mac straight shot, pypes x pipe and catback, 3.73 gears and Tlok, UDPs,superchips tuner, and ran a mid 15 in the quarter and was spinning in 1st and 2nd gear, stock rims and tires. So mid 14's wouldn't be hard. Drag radials, ported heads, cam and your there.

I wouldn't use slicks and dump it at 3 or 4K rpms on stock axles. They might take it for awhile but awhile is all. I would use Drag Radials, slip the clutch and then give it hell.

well we know the v6 can go into the 12's all motor, Tom Y went 12 flat with his build H/C/I 4.3l stroker in his green foxbody.

and i remmber seeing a couple people go 13's with topend swaps and traction

Cam bro cam not cams. Install prices vary from state to state region to region etc. Espect to pay atleast $500 probably more around 7-8. But if you're doing a cam swap you might as well swap the P&P heads and intakes while the top end is of anyways.
