8 inch antenna

Ok, so the stock(GIANT) antenna is really starting to get on my nerves. It's in the middle of my windshield! and it sways back and forth while I drive.... Idk.... I'm just crazy. But anyway, does anyone have the 8 inch one? and what do you think about? How does the radio sound? and does it flop around alot while u drive?

DarkShadow04 03-10-2006 02:40 PM

just cut it

Milos 03-10-2006 02:51 PM

I just got my 8 inch today and put it on, it gets decent reception... I'm still trying to figure out what all the screws are for though, there's like... 3 and there's only two places that they go in? I don't know that ones blowing my mind... it gets choppy once the car starts moving but that may just be me using... the wrong sequence of screws?

Shambles 03-10-2006 03:12 PM

Not all the screws are used. Only one is :).

redfire04 03-10-2006 03:29 PM

i bought mine about a month ago and i have never once had bad reception. I called MT before i purchased it to ask them if the reception was any different between the 8 inch and 14 inch and they told me that if you live NEAR a larger city that you will be fine, however if you live in the boonies the reception will start to fade. I live about 20 miles from st louis and mine works like a charm, and looks good too. You also won't need to take it off if you use a car cover. I hated taking mine off everytime i wanted to cover it... :punk:

DarkShadow04 03-10-2006 04:06 PM

I think im just going to mov it some where else cause i hate it

xpaeanx 03-10-2006 04:33 PM

hmmmmm.... well I kinda live in the boonies and kinda not.... I wonder if it would work or not? Well, I guess I should give it a try b/c I hate where ford put it... what idiot smoked himself stupid and was like.... "hey why don't we just put the antenna right in the middle of the windshield! that way we can piss everyone off when they try to look out the right side!" I mean why didn't they just put it on the driver's side... that's prob the only place that would make it worse....

redfire04 03-10-2006 05:28 PM

well if you think it may be an issue just get the 14 inch, that looks good also.

whitethunder46 03-10-2006 05:36 PM

I've had the 8 inch, and definately could tell a difference in reception, it was horrible, but if I got another one, I would get the 14 inch.

FritoBandito 03-10-2006 05:59 PM

I have the 14 inch and no probs at all.

Nick40th6 03-10-2006 10:55 PM

Mine works fine and radio reception around here sucks anyway.

95STANG 03-11-2006 11:04 AM

I just put mine on yesterday and it took me about 5 min. The reception was actually improved on mine. and it looks a h*ll of a lot better.

MattJ 03-11-2006 11:10 AM

I got the 8inch one and id say go for the 14 since you have the choice. i got mine for free, and my reception went down a little bit. the antenna is SUPER small too, it looks kinda goofy.

Just curious, but how can reception improve when going to something much shorter????

well I want super small.... I hate the fact that it's in the way... I want something tiny that won't be flopping all of the place just plain giant. Idk... I was also thinking of just taking it off... I don't really listen to the radio all that much....maybe like once a month... I didn't even have the radio in my old car, so that was like over a yr of no radio.

men........

Milos 03-11-2006 09:35 PM

Yeah, I hated the fact that the antenna was so big, it was almost obnoxious... plus it just didn't go with what I was trying to achive with the car... I didn't want it to stand out any more than it had to, so I went with the 8 inch.

And then I bought a 37-inch CB antenna, so my logic is flawed.

If you want it really small just get the 8 instead of the 14. you said you dont really listen to the radio so if there are reception problems it wont be taht big of a deal. Just get it.

xpaeanx 03-11-2006 09:43 PM

yeah.... I'm just one of those people who will spend forever doing research about something and than make an impulse decision.... so I don't know why I waste all my time researching in the first place... but idk... it's just what i do... lol :)

Shambles 03-11-2006 10:23 PM

For looks, go with a 14". It will line up directly with your roofline and wont flop all around. O and a solution for reception..

Get XM ;).

silverstang2001 03-12-2006 10:47 AM

or... get XM and an antenna delete

95bstallion 03-12-2006 02:33 PM

Since there is such a debate i might just cut mine and make it 11 inches. What do you have to do and will the reception be as good as buying a 8 or 14 inch antenna.

Check this thread out for directions on shortening your antenna

that's cool... I have my bf do everything... unless something breaks... than my grandpa does that... I don't do cars... i'm just the one that stands there and hands things to them, asks a million and ten questions "what does this do?" "what is that for." "why do I need this?" "why?" and then holds things or whatever.... I can do little things though... like I put the connector thing on my brother's truck that turns the lights on his trailor on when he's got it hooked up to the truck...

hey, that's a start

xpaeanx 03-12-2006 04:46 PM

ok I just ordered the 8 inch.... I figure I don't listen to the radio very often... so i prob won't even notice if it doesn't work very well.... and I won't have a giant thing towering over the right side of my windshield.... I also got black refective bumper inserts.... I know I told myself I was going to put performance things on b4 I spent my money on looks... but I want to put something on now... and all the performance parts cost a bit more than just looks things....

Fugg XM, Sirius is this Isht! that'd be a nice upgrade...or just cut your currrent antenna...

xpaeanx 03-16-2006 10:16 AM

i got my new antenna! it's sooooooo tiny. I just put it on so I haven't had a chance to listen and see if the reception quality is any different. But I deffinatly like how it looks!

TEGO210 03-16-2006 10:22 AM

I just took it off completely since i never listen to the radio. i usually listen mostly to CDs. Now that it is no longer there there the small base on the fender does not even stand out. If you look closely at mustangs in magazines they always take off the antenna for the pics and most people never even notice it is not there. This is especially true for Fast Fords& MM
