Default Two questions

1. I am not sure the size of my rims. I know they are 17 inches but I do not know the width. Or atleast, the width tires I would be able to use on it.

Here is a pic (not my car but it has the same rims as me)
http://www.dragtimes.com/images/8554...rd-Mustang.jpg

2. I have around 250 HP to the wheels and I was looking at either the nt555's or nt555r's from AM. With only bolt ons would it even make sense to use the radials? I like north of Chicago so it does rain alot.

Correct me if im wrong but the GTs have around 300 to the wheels stock, soo you should have allot more than 250, probably around 330ish or so would be my guess. Also you might wanna get a tape measure and just measure the rims themselves. Find out what size they are, then look em up on AM and see what size tire they recomend, or something along that process.

jesus dude... dont give out information...or at least research it a bit...you were one google search way from not being wrong.

A stock 99-04 GT Mustang puts out about 230 to the wheels... Mine did 245 with bolt- on's and no cats.

and to the original poster:

Those rims look like they are 17x8s. One way to tell for sure is to look on the inner parts of the spokes, or on the inside of the rim somewhere...the size will be noted somewhere.

Probably going to be 245/45/17's or 255/40/17's. Either should work fine, the 245's will be slightly more narrow than the 255's, but the 245's will have a little taller sidewall. I forget how tires are measured, but I think it's in millimeters? So you would have 5 less mm in sidewall height on the 255's, but 10 more mm in width. Something like that.

I would probably go with the 255/40/17's. That's what I'm running on my front rims and I like the size.

As far as the brand of choice, it really just depends on your normal driving element. Do you ever get snow? IF you do, then Nitto's aren't for you. They have awesome dry traction, and actually really good wet, but I can't imagine what they would be like in ice/snow, they don't even have a rating on the website.

The nitto's are a summer tire if u live around Chicago and drive the car in the winter I would go with an all season tire. I read on mayb tire rack or some where that the summer tires effect ur braking in colder weather.

Thus the reason for my quote "The Nitto's aren't for you."

Well these tires wouldn't be used until spring since it is pretty much just snow right now.

The wider tires would have better traction yes? The all seasons I have now didn't hook at 1700 rpms in summer lol.

The nittos I will do since everyone seems to really think they are great. I am just not sure on the radials or not.

They would technically have a wider surface to grip the road.. Whether it would actualyl equate to anything significant, I doubt it. The Nitto's do run slightly wider than other equally sized brands though.

I think the NT555's are a great driving tire. If you plan on driving the car in rain I would definitely not do drag radials if that's what you're referring to. I have a spare set of rims with Hoosier drag radials mounted for going to the track.

The Nittos do fine in snow also, but don't run into anything you know it shouldn't be going into. I drove through about three inches of snow with 275 NT555s and they did fine as long as i lugged it.

I myself wouldn't get radials unless you really need the grip and just dump the clutch at red lights 24/7. Launching my car off the 2-step at 3500 hooks everytime during summer weather. Compared to my all-season BFG KDWS that sucked *** with less mods than I have now.

I'm not sure if you are thinking, but you just SAID that they stated 260HP for the GT's. The 302 value is the torque in foot-pounds.

Those are 17x8 rims in that picture.

I would rock 255/40/17 all around if you want to rotate them, or that and 275/40/17 out back for more meat. I rock 245 up front and 275 out back.

Like you said bro. wider tires out back just plain look better if nothing else. Yours looks Great.

My experience is when my orginal Goodyear POS's lost all tread after only 11,000 miles, I couldn't afford (at that time) to get $300+ tires to pass inspection. So i got the cheapo Sumitomo's from tire rack. Summer tires, I immediately felt the difference in the grip. Even now after I quit doing 60 ft burnouts, they still handle great, 17 000 miles on them. although I have same size all the way around ( 245 45 17) they look good too.. My next set will be a summer directional tire, Maybe something a bit more expensive. I just needed a cheap alternative with the Sumi's but they outshined goodyears by a mile..
