Wheel Woes

Hey all, as you can tell by my s/n I'm from Chicago. I don't know if many of you are, but we have quite a bad pothole problem. That being said, I bent my 2nd rim on potholes this year and I'm looking to get something new that aren't stock rims. Suggestions?

well chicago what color is your car??

krenogin 03-31-2009 06:05 PM

because i want to get rid of hideous rims! =) which i think they look good,, just dont suit the car i guess.

ChicagoGT01 04-01-2009 11:42 AM

I'd only buy hideous rims if the price was right. haha

As for the car color, deep red. I'll try to get some pictures, but I'm yet to get a camera. You'd think that by workin in an electronics store I'd have one by now.

Yeah so, I was calling around at Ford dealerships and they're all saying a facotry replacement is at least $350. So I'm not going to replace one now at 350, and then drop a ton of money on rims later. May as well get 'em now.

Dude, hell no. If you want factory replacements, go on Craigslist and try to find some. There are always a crapload of them in my area.

Then again, you could just do what you already said and get new wheels because if you did get the replacements, you'd be wasting your money.

ChicagoGT01 04-01-2009 12:49 PM

Yeah, I checked out craigslist and got squat. There's plenty of Mach 1 wheels though.

krenogin 04-01-2009 02:07 PM

mach 1's look great.. I love them! but, id sell my 20's with the tires for 800, thats my lowest price, and im sure even if u didnt use em on ur stang u could resell em for more, but i just dont like 20's after i got dogged soo bad on this site.

cpthowdy 04-01-2009 03:04 PM

dont buy his 20's. shame on you for trying to hustle a fellow mustang owner, lol
and dont but the replacement, rather go on american muscle, buy some there, very reasonable price for rims. or look around, i bought my black saleens for 350 with tires, used

They do look decent on 2005-2009, depending on the style of the wheel. 20's actually fit our body style, so we can get away with it.

Not necessarily. 20's look ridiculous on any year Mustang before 2005. I don't think that pre-2005 Mustangs should go any larger than 18".

ChicagoGT01 04-01-2009 05:32 PM

Agreed on the 20's. There's a difference between filling the wheel well, and and looking like you're driving on train wheels. lol, jk.

I think I'm gonna go with 17x9's in the from and some 17x10.5's in the back. Should look hot! I'll have to get a camera with that too so you all can see!

Anybody have a TPM system? I was thinking about getting one just so that I can prevent as much rim damage as possible.

Hell yeah, man. Your 17x9's and 17x10.5 will look sick as hell.

Sadly, I don't think there is any way to prevent rim damage. I (usually) drive very carefully, but I have still managed to damage all 4 of my wheels. I know two of them were damaged by the curbs that are in bank drive-thrus, but I don't know about the other ones. :(

grab some used v6 rims and tires off craigslist. They'll bolt up and they're cheap and since the sidewalls are way taller you won't frag so many rims.
