So... I'm wanting to get some nittos, here

I drive in southern MI, we get some snow, not a terrible amount though. It does get cold. Will driving in the winter do unreasonable damage to them?

I've currently driving on nexen tires (on stock 16" rims) and I can't imagine my traction being any worse. The above links show the snow/ice traction as being N/A... that isn't necessarily the same as 0.

If I drive the nittos in the winter, what should I expect?

or should I throw my nexen's back on for the winter?

Sumis and nittos are not good for the winter because the compound they are made of changes when it gets cold and you traction decreases greatly making driving very difficult and in the snow you will spin no matter what you are doing especially with a wide tire acting like a ski

Even the 'all season' sumi tires are bad in the winter?

I didn't know they made a all season if so they should be ok but sumis have a reputation of wearing out quickly. I personally wouldn't know cause I've never had them but from the reviews I have read they don't last long

 

What would be good tires for the winter? I survived this past winter on my nexen's albeit it was awful in the snow, I could still get where I needed to go.

seriously summer tires in winter around the area you live in.

i'm moving to arizona where summer tires are good for all seasons...my G-sports are getting dumped for some summer rubber.

The Nitto's are not made for snow so for you it sounds like you need a nice all weather tire. Go to tirerack.com or tires.com and look up tires for your car and read the reviews to help you pick out a good tire.

 

i had goodyear eagles for my all-season/winter tires in new york, excellent tires.

 

Get Michelin pilot sports. I had those on my car though winter in Chicago and the upper peninsula of Michigan and they good tires. They are also very good in rain over the summer. Only reason I won't get them again is because now that I moved I only need summer tires

 

Thanks everyone. This clears things up for me =) Hopefully the snow is done for the year and in a few months I can get some good snow tires at a discount.

always hot/rainy/humid but never snow
