less metal = more power so basically, go smaller. but the power ur gonna lose w/say a 17 or *maybe* 18 isn't gonna be too bad. i've got 17x9's w/a tloc and it still spins'em. barely, but it spins'em

the price of any tire over 17" alone makes me say nothing bigger then 17's.

I would agree...I had 17" chrome bullits on b4 I made the move to 18's and I did not notice any power loss...you do pay big $$ for 18" tires I would agree

FYI I have 18x9 and 18x10 with no rubbing ever...even at full lock

there is a subtle difference, but honestly i cant tell of those 2 pics which is the 17 and which is the 18.

An extra inch of rim size runs you hundreds in increased tire cost and slows you down a little in the 1/4 mile, just for a rim that is barely any bigger.

not worth it in my view....
yup 18" tire are a big expense way more than 17's and for the 1/4 mile time...I never race so no big thing...the car get only about 3000 miles a year and only on dry road never in the rain...If your car is a DD then 17"s would be my choice as well

In my opinion if it is your daily driver or not, if you like 18, 19's or 20's for that matter and want to spend the additional money for them then it is entirely up to the individuals opinion. For me, I think both the 17s and 18s look nice.. I think wheels any larger really don't look right in my eyes. I have 17's now, but want to change them so I can go with a larger tire.. My wheels had the 245x40x17s all the way around when I bought the car.. I am now trying to shop around to get ideas on what wheel to go with to enable me to jump to the 275/285x40. Whether I go with 17 or 18 depends on price difference and how much better they will look filling in any fender gap I may have after dropping in my HR Super Sport springs.

I'm going to agree with ironwarrior on this one...get what you like personally.

I would actually like to see the difference in weight between a set of 17s and 18s. For most of us I bet it makes 0 difference. I agree they definately weigh more which affects power thats obvious but I for one have only visited the track once since I bought my car over 2 years ago. I could see being concerned about weight if I went to the track more frequently.

I have a set of twenties on my 01 GT, and let me tell you the tires cost me about the same as 17's around 156 ea. I know most here dont think 20's look all that great on our cars. But I have recieved alot of compliments. I think I going to drop my car a few inches to help it stand out a lil more. The only set back is I have to buy a programmer. For could program my car for the increase in size. Their program only ran up to 19 inch tires.

I think all you have to do is have the car reprogrammed if you increase the tire height. I put 20's on my car and I noticed the difference I tried to have it reprogrammed, but the program ford had only went up to 19 inch for our cars. So thats my suggestion is just to reprogram the computer.

LOL, I dont granny it all the time. That was the first set of tires. The sidewall i totally different on my new ones. Right now I have 255/35's all around. That is as wide as i can go on the front. It already rubs a little on tight turns. Like going into parking space's other than that I have no other issues with rubbin.

You said those tires are 255-35's, what is the width of the rim you are running (8 inch, 9inch?) . I would agree with zig zag, even with your latest photo the sidewall does look sucked in a bit.

That is to bad that a 255 width tire is as wide as you can go.
You said you wanted to lower the car a bit more, that might present even more rubbing issues. But on the positive note as you mentioned, the tires are much much cheaper than those guys running 295 and 310 width tires .

I can run wider tires on the back but i dont want to I want to be able to rotate my tires. I have no issues with rubbing while drive lowering it wont be a problem. It rubs the back of the fender liner only on hard turns like parking space turns. Which even then you cant tell or feel it.
