Default 17 vs 18

Ok I know there is a thread for 17vs 18 for all 4 corners but my question is whether to go with 17x10.5 in the rear or 18x10.5 03 SVT style rims
car has stock 17x9inch rims
I know some manfuaturers have gone for the bigger int he back style for awhile. Will effect handling etc?? Any one have first hand experience?

Exactly
I upgraded my GT to 18x9 black with polished lip fr500
but the cobra has some nice looking rims from the factory so i figure I will just buy a larger rear wheel to help with the looks and traction. going up about 175 horse and 200 ft lbs in the next month and a little extra traction could help. dunno if 18x10.5s in the rear with 17x9s up front would have a nicer look then 17s on all 4 corners. Haven't seen anyone doing it so far

Default 18 inch

I run deep dish 18's front and back - 18x9 with 275/35 18 front, and 18x10 with 295/35 18 Firehawks in the back. Awesome look and with the car lowered about 1.3 inches, they fill up the wells nicely without scrubbing.

The main drawbacks are price. The wheels cost more than the 17" versions, and the tires definitely cost more. There are also far fewer tire choices in the 18" sizes, particularly for anything other than a drag radial in 315 width.
I like to run a street rated tire for this daily driver - 300 wear rating or above (drag radials have ratings of 100 or less). I just can't stand to be replacing tires every 6 months.

Michelin and Pirelli make the right size tires... For $490 to over $500 each!

I agree, I've seen a few 19 inch setups that look fine, and the 05-06 models can handle the 20's...

If I had it to do over again I'd just get 4 18x9" wheels and retain the ability to rotate the tires.

My 03 SVT Vert came stock with the 17x9s with toyo proxies and my GT has 18x9s all the way around with BF Goodrich T/A KDWs...
I am not changing the front rims just the rear, and I am trying to figure out if 17s in the front and 18s in the rear will have the right look, the rims will run be about 700 for 2 chrome 18x10.5s in the rear as opposed to around 600 for chrome 17x10.5s A few hundred here and there doesn't make that much a difference to me when I loolk at what I have already put into the car and what I have yet to put in.

Default Deep

My car looks good with the front slightly lower than the back (which will happen if you run taller tires on the back or if you lower the back less than the front). The difference with my car is about .3 inches with the suspension and a bit more due to the tires.

If you can handle the shorter tire life span, the look is definitely strong.
