Default So I want to lower my mustang, but...

Okay, so I recently landed a new job, switched departments at Price Chopper, and I'm working in the meat department. Now I'm working a lot more hours and I have some extra cash.

I want to lower my V6 mustang. I think it will drastically change the way it looks. I'm not looking to make it faster or handle a corner at 900mph, it's just merely looks and anything else it an added bonus.

With that all stated, I'm highly planning on buying these from AmericanMuscle.com . What I want to know is, do I need anything else, such as the Spring Isolators and/or Camber-Caster Plates?

Keep in mind that I'm not looking for racing, I don't want any aggressive camber or whatever, just looks, but if it's needed to be able to have the lowering springs, state so.

Thanks.

Oh and any before and after pictures of v6 mustangs with this kit?

You can use just the springs, but eventually you WILL need shocks, struts and WILL need caster/camber plates, I rolled around on just H&R Super sports for almost 2 years then a major event made me decide to buy CC plates, struts and shocks.

Here's my car when I had just the springs on stock shocks, struts and CC plates, all of the isolators were in place

Then here it is with Bilstein shocks, saleen struts, C/C plates, no isos in front and the upper iso only in back

Okay, so I should just skip the bullshit and buy it all and have it all installed at once?

What should I go with? I'm not looking for "tucking-tire/rim" or anything, so what parts should I go with? Is cheaper better for my situation?

I don't have a ton of money to blow, but I'd rather spend on decent stuff rather then skip it and have my axle fall off. :P

I'm going to be buying everything if possible through AM, so if you could link from their that'd be sick.

Thanks biker, it is pretty low, and the consequences of the height show, haha.

Bronto, if you have the money to do it all at once, I would. I didn't have the $$ that's what I only got springs, but getting it all at the same time is a better route.

Now, H&R Super Sports are pretty stiff, they drop you low but they are more or less very trackable street springs, they are stiff. Bilsteins Struts also are well suited on a track, but are also streetable. Having them on your vehicle will make it turn better than it accelerates (v6 lolz ). They are also expensive. If you just want to drop the car and not have some awesome handling capabilities or spend too much $$, I'd recommend Eibach Pro-kit with some Tokico blues

You need these either way: CC plates

No, but they lower the car about as much.

Yes. Softer springs/struts will have more ride comfort than stiffer ones.

Couldn't I just use the H&R springs? They drop lower than the Eibach ones do. And yes I just want to drop. I don't plan on ever going to a track, but then again, I don't want to make a 10 degree turn and have my whole car shifting the the other side.

I mean in conjunction with the shocks and struts, instead of just using them with the Bilstein.

Well, they're not soft..but not stiff. They are definitely stiffer than your stock springs (so are the HP Blue struts/shocks) and you will notice handling improvement, just not as much as the super sports and bilsteins would give you. I wouldn't use H&R springs with the Tokico struts and shocks, they are too stiff for those.

Is their any height difference between the two setups you posted? I like the way your mustang sits in your signature. That's what I'm going for, but I don't exactly want to spend $900.00 for it.

You mean between H&R/Bilstein and Eibach/Tokico? You could probably get the Eibach's just as low, pull the isolators off the front springs. There are a few members with Eibach springs on this board so many one or two of those **** will see this thread and post up their stuff.

I hope so. Thanks for all of your helpful input. I'm probably going with the Eibach setup just because of price issues.

What do the isolators do anyways? They just cushion the spring against the frame? What would happen if I took them out? Which ones, top or bottom, should I take off?

Isolators help reduce noise/friction caused by the springs contacting the control arms and the chassis. Taking them out drops the car a little bit more. Sometimes you'll get noise (squeaks from the springs when you go over bumps and stuff) but mine don't make any noise. I took both top and bottoms off the fronts, and the bottoms off the backs.

PCola your car is ******* sexy! Not to stray TOO far off topic, because I've learned a bit from this thread, but what tires do you have on those and what size front/back? Your front tires looks like it oddly has a higher sidewall than the rear... looks kind of funny.

Taking the isolators off is about 1/4" lower.

Kyanbi, the front sidewalls are a tad taller, it'll be like that for anyone with 17" staggered wheels. 315/35/17 and 275/40/17.

Ehhh I've never heard of Dropzone and they seem like one of those cheap Ebay companies. I would stay away from those types of companies when it comes to something as important as your suspension.

I don't know how some of you daily drive with cars that have 1.5" or more drops on them. I only have 1" and I scrape sometimes as is. If this wasn't my daily driver I might go lower, but I just don't know how some of you do it.

lol I cry everytime you and I enter nick's neighborhood lol.. that bump is a crazy ******!

I run H&R Super Sports with MM CC Plates...

I did not need CC plates even with my lowering, I did not wear unevenly or anything.. another thing I would recommend doing is X2 Ball Joint and Bumpsteer Kit..

I picked up a UPR Bump Steer Kit for 60 bucks which is why I purchased it...

if you want to do it right off the bat at least get the shocks/struts because my car rides like COMPLETE ****, and it sucks... as for scraping I have long tubes so I might scrape more than some others.

Okay, so I should be good with theses?

Shocks and Struts:
Tokico HP Series Front Strut (94-04) - $99.99
Tokico HP Series Rear Shock (94-04 excl. IRS Cobra) - $54.99

Springs:
Eibach Pro-Kit Springs (79-04 V6/4 Cyl. Coupe) - $249.99

Camber Caster Plates:
Maximum Motorsports Caster/Camber Plates (94-04) - $199.99

Could I swap for this? J&M Mustang 4-Bolt Caster Camber Plates (94-04) - $164.99 OR should I just spend the extra $40.00?

Total:
Parts Listed: - ~$604.96
With Swapped Camber Caster Plates: - ~$569.96

The Tokico struts and shocks are sold individually so you need to buy two of each.

Okay so it's like $770.00 for that setup. So when do I get an allignment? Right after I have them install it or do I have to wait for everything to settle?

Will my front tires be forced outwards more if I lower it? they already stick out past the fender on both sides.
