Rear Sway Bar

So I broke the Rear Sway Bar on the passenger side out of no where. My mechanic said I'm okay with taking it off as long as I don't take sharp corners (which I don't). He also said I'm better off going to a junk yard to get one. Although they wont let me take Mustang parts off. :(

What's a good Rear Sway Bar aftermarket one? How much do they cost and how much do the stock ones cost?

I just noticed aftermarket ones are expensive. Is it worth it?

What about these?

if you don't take a lot of corners hard etc.. just get the cheapest OEM one you can find.

How did you brake it? Find a stock take-off GT sway bar. V6 stangs don't even have rear sway bars.

I do take corners hard every once in awhile, but my Rear Sway Bar didn't brake or it or anything and the corners held strong. I don't do it like really sharp, I'm like afraid to, but yet I'm not. It's hard to explain, I'm more just taking off space and speeding, switching lanes fast ect. Doesn't always happen, I calmed down.

Should I be okay? Get the cheap one.

Um I went to the store to get change, so I can give my brother some money. I picked up my friend from School and when we went to the store his friends were there. So they were staring at my car, checking it out, and others were watching. When I pulled out, got on the road going straight I almost litterly floored it, going really fast in first and second gear, then I slowed down. That's the only thing that I can think of that would do it. Because when I take off fast my rear end goes down. Oh yeah the rear right side broke off, right there the first bolt is closet to the brake caliper.

My mechanic said most cars don't come with Sway Bars, beisdes the sport packages.

Every GT mustang 94+ has front and rear sway bars and if you don't want the car to handle worse get atleast the OEM one again. And I hope your not driving around swerving through traffic like a ricer.

No, not like them at all. Thanks Dustin, I'm going to call around to find one in town before I go order one off E-Bay or something.

Edit: I didn't get to finish my post because I was in a hurry to go to work (now using my boss's computer). What I mean is I don't speed and swerv in and out of traffic. When I go to work (not always just work) people are slow, so I just SOMETIMES cut others off to get ahead of the car, but I don't go speed/racing through or anything. Hell no. Oh and I found a Craigslist ad for a Rear Sway bar for $50, I'm going to try and lower the price. :D Anyways They will all fit right, the stock ones? Craigslist for the win. :D

LoL, I didn't need the whole story of your day, just what happened to the car when it broke. You could have just said you didn't know what caused it to brake, good description of what you were doing though. So the bar broke, like snapped clean, and not the clips or bolt?

When you get a new rear swaybar use the stock clips. I made the mistake a while back of trying to replace the stock clips with G8 bolts washers and nuts. Well, for some reason the nuts kept stripping out, I couldn't figure it out, only 41 ft-lbs on grade 8 hardware. I called Maximum Motorsports and they said that in no way do they recommend not using the stock clips for the swaybar, unless it is their adj. swaybars.

I drove for years and even autocrossed without a rear sway...... but now that I have one I would never give it up:D

Sorry, I had to get it out and there is more (I almost died). :/ I don't get how it broke now that I think about it, because I was just taking off fast, not turning or switching lanes. I never take hard corners, well every once in awhile, but rarely do I ever. Um the Passenger side broke off. at the first bolt where it holds on the brake line. It just like snapped off out of no where. Everytime I hit a bump I could hear it, but couldn't figure it out. I still have it, it's sitting next to me. I put them stock ones back on so it would hold my brake line up .LoL

Oh okay, so well then I'm okay? You wouldn't give it up, is it that big of a difference?

I want one, but there all over $70.

ANDYS87 03-26-2009 06:50 AM

Too bad you aren't closer to NY. I'm replacing the lower control arms and my rear sway bar. I'd give you my stock one for free. The weather is still crappy here, so it might be a month or so before I do everything.

ANDYS87 03-26-2009 06:54 AM

My car is a 99 GT. What are "stock clips"?........thought they just bolted to the lower control arms?

01FR500 03-26-2009 08:19 AM

There are clips that (guess what) clip to the lower control arms that the bolt goes through and tightens down onto. The LCA is just stamped steel, but the clip has a threaded side for the bolt to get snug on.

ANDYS87 03-26-2009 09:32 AM

Gotcha......that's why my MM LCA's just came with the nuts to install on the factory bolts. Think I'll have a problem using their hardware instead of the clips?
