Default WRX Vs. Mustang GT

Hey guys I have a race coming up. This son of b**** keeps talking crap saying he can beat my car he has a 2004 WRX with just a exhaust. I think he ran a 14.5 *rumors*. I just got my SLP exhaust on and my X-Cal2 tune in. Plus my cold air intake and my intake spacer and 180* thermostat. Sooooo hows the outcome going to look please tell me I have him beat. I dont wanna look like a idiot.Opinions....tips.....anything.....words of wisdom?

Depends on how well you drive. A stock well driven WRX can run low 14s and a well driven stock GT can run high 13s.

Dont stink and you will win.

I have raced two 04 WRX's at the track and beat both. Both ran a high 13's but were not driven as well as they could have been. I had 3.73's on the first race and barely beat him 13.73 to 13.81 but I tree'd his *** real bad .041 to .450 so it was not as close as it should have been. The last one I raced this spring and destroyed him since I was now running 12.80's - 13.10's with the 4.30's and torque convertor. I don't know if they were stock or not but they sounded and looked stock. I'd say it's a drivers race.

I have a 04 GT with a BBK CAI, MRT H-Pipe w/Cats, Flow Masters, & and a Predator tune. I beat two WRX's one at the track and one on the the street. Its all about the driver. If you get a good lauch and hit all your shifts you'll win

I woud'nt under estimate those WRXs they are quick especially if you talkin about the STI (300hp) model, but like someone said earlier it may come down to the driver too?

The way I see it is your car is still pretty much stock. The mods you have done wont give you much power. So its a drivers race.

It should be a driver's race. Car for car, you should have the edge, but a driver is the best mod. On that note, his AWD should be a lot more forgiving at launch, but with a good one, you should take him early. He will have a hard time catching up.

Don't expect your mods to result in much of a difference. Really, only gears adn a PA or lots of weight reduction will net big results.

I have screwed around on the highway with my buddies '05. Both are verts too. I pull on hiss *** until about 50 mph, then the tide turns. After about 80 mph, his tailights start to get smaller if I was following him to begin with.

Point is, cars are stronger at different speeds. You may loose to one of these on the highway, but then beat him at teh track. 1/4 racing is a lot different then racing from a roll. Or vice verse.

I set up the car optimized for the quarter mile without huge power.
gears
torque converter
suspension
tune
Sticky tires
and an extra 40 rwhp over stock.
My car is pretty fast for a couple of bolt on's but would not be a good street racer. Most guy's like to run from a roll on the highway and I'm set up to race from a dead stop. I can only go about 110 or so in third gear. My goal was to run mid 12's with a stock motor since my car is my only means of transportation other than my wife's old 94 Grand Voyager which I despise. Once I put my comp cams in I should hit 12.50's in decent air. Next year or two I'll buy a new Mustang and retire this one from daily duty then I'll shoot for the 10's.

My car is totally prep and ready to go. Unfortunitely its gonna be like 91* at the track tonight so i'm going to let some air out of my rear tires so i'll hook. i'm also taking my spare tire out and getting a bagof ice to set on my CAI. I have about a quarter of a tank of premium with some octane booster and the car is tuned and just got the tranny fluid changed. This is as good as it's going to get.

Air up the fronts to 45 psi, drop the backs down to 20 -22 psi. Good Luck!

Dont wanna steal your thread but I thought you might find it interesting that I test drove a WRX not to long ago because everyone talks so highly of them (even the car magazines). Well I drove a brand new one so it was'nt broke in at all so keep that in mind...............Performance wise I very dissapointed, nothing down low and alot of turbo lag I thought it was not fast at all I think the only reason these cars stand a chance is the AWD. But it did handle awesome, very fun on the back roads around here and road very well. All in all It's a nice car but if you want fast your going to have to upgrade to a STI.

Yeah man don't sleep on the EVO's and the STI's. They will sneak up on you. That AWD is killer. I do have to say though....the turbo lag is horrible. I've driven them both, and while they are some fast cars....it takes them a good 1.5 seconds to get up there. That's plenty of time to get in front and make them look bad in front of their sideways hat wearing friends

a friend of mine had an '03 WRX w/ exhaust, intake and BOV and it was decent but when we raced people with it, i would launch it at 7K and it launched like a bow-legged ape! We raced a couple GT's w/ work done and rearend up grades and from a dead stop we'de pull them by about 3 or 4 cars instantly all b/c of the launch same thing w/ a Z28 but 3rd gear is when they would start to catch up but it took alot. If your boy upgrades his turbo or turns up the boost, hope he doesnt get the ***** to launch it at 7K, if so have fun catching up.

Yeah, have fun catching up or seeing his tranny falling out in pieces. I guess the lauch is where it is for these awd cars, cause they got no ***** in that engine.
