why ford and svt **** me the hell off
dont get me wrong....i love mustangs, i have my whole life....but why does ford always puss out on the power and size of the engine....give one good god d-a-m-n reason why ford couldnt at least stick a 5.4. litre into a mustang.....how come almost any stock mustang can be beaten by the camaro in the same price range.....think about it.....v6 stang v. v6 camaro.....dead stang......z 28 v. gt.....z28 victory.....ss v. cobra {not 03-04}......cobra de fanged.......... s/c cobra v. formula t/a ..........a little closer.....and as if that werent enough ford is doing the same damn thing with the next gen muscle cars.......06 gt v. gto.....charger...new camaro....winner:not the mustang! god dam it, just throw a friggin 5.4 in thre and at least try to hang with the competition.....the mustang has always dominated the competion looks-wise...but how bout a little factory go too????? doesnt it make you're blood boil to know that you have to throw at least a thousand bucks into your gt to regularly hang with an ss......its enogh to almost make me wanna buy a bowtie.......and then use the 1000 bucks to get a gun and ease my misery......just kidding....:wallbash: but still pissed

To me, a Mustang is built from Ford to be somewhat of a family sports car as well. Look how many stangs are on the road, cant be said from other sport cars. The camaro/vette/ such is more of a true sport car, not saying that the mustang isnt.

a true sports car doesnt have a back seat.....lets face it...if the camaro of the past 15 years wasnt butt *** ugly, the mustang would have been the car that got outsold and ultimatly shelved.

My Ford dealer has 2 GTs, 1 yellow/black, 1 white/blue. We also just got the 05 3dCarbon SEMA winner car (not a replica, but the ACTUAL one minus the Whipple). We also have a couple custom built 06s with 400+hp on our lot right now.

But generally the mustangs where much more affordable than the fbodies which is the main reason they are not made anymore. Imo the mustang is nicer inside as well. Obviously opinions differ but imo the stang is a better value. A 99+ GT will run close with a stock LT1 fbody, but not with an LS1.
But my question is, how do you figure a Formula and SC Cobra are close? The cobra if driven properly would rape a stock fbody any year or trim level. You are comparing a low 13 second car to a mid 12 second car with good drivers.

Look at the prices of the charger RT and SRT-8, they are both 30K+ cars and the RT is not in the same league as the GT or GTO. The SRT-8 is 40K. That is Shelby territory and I would rather have 475hp in a 3900lb car than 450hp in a 4200lb car

That being said, the main point of the GT is affordable performance, where else can you get 300hp, rwd, good looks, competent suspension, and the pedigree of a mustang for 25K. Yeah no where.

I see fast mustangs all the time. we have a smaller engine. If you want a fast car, you dont buy a v6. simple as that. and lets see. we have a 281 compared to a 350. I see a little bit of displacment range here between the two engines.
Look where the camaro is. gone, but mabye coming back
GTO? Gone...
Trans Am? Gone...

You wanna know why mustang is still around? Affordable and quick. you wanna know why its affordable and quick? The 4.6 liter. You wanna know why they use a 4.6 liter? It's built for a darn low price and is quick. For a car that costs $25,000(say, a new 06 GT), going 0-60 under 6 seconds is fuggin good. And also keeping a back seat, good looks, v8, cool interior, etc...it's brilliant.
You also gotta think in respect to the Ford GT. It has 550 hp. The shelby gt500 will have 475. the 03/04 cobra has 390. the 01 cobra has 320. Mach 1 has 305. GT has 260. And with the v6(which nobody cares about) has 190. It's all about the totem pole. It'd be stupid of ford to give the GT a 5.4 liter because power output n/a would kill any mach 1 OR 01 cobra, and at a cheaper price, ford wouldnt have sold any mach 1's or cobras. You gotta give people a reason to buy a cobra/mach 1. The N/A tuned 5.4L cobra R pumped 385 hp. Anywhere close to that in a GT and ford would have a bunch of mach 1's and a buncha cobras sittin and collecting dust at the dealerships because for 5 grand+ cheaper they would be able buy a faster car.

Who else out there has a same sized engine in the same class as a mustang that can push the power that this lil 4.6 can? Yeah i understand where everyone is coming form with the bigger engine crap. If ford keeps the same equations and makes a 427ci engine and s/c it, it would make about 600hp

Ive learned something special working at a automobile dealership about people complaining and whining about everything...
You can have WHATEVER you like, as long as you have the money.

Those are actually two very very good points. I've never thought about it in the way that all the mustangs are 4.6 from cobra supercharged to the base GT's (I'm not including the Cobra R's).
Unlike GM and Mopar they'll up the engine from a 5.7 to a 6.1 like the new dodge charger.

The GT is an affordable sport sedan with an honest 315 hp motor. It's not 300 as Ford says, they dyno 265-275, do the math. We have more aftermarket support than any other car out there. You can bolt on a few parts and some sticky tires and run 12's. I did with the wussy 2v motor. The GTO is ugly and plain with 400 hp is only marginally faster than a stock GT. Ford will be releasing two specialty models in the next couple years, a Mach and Bullitt or Boss. They will make more power than a GT and cost more. The GT is not Ford's top Mustang it's the middle of the road. The over priced Shelby GT500 is the new top dog but only rich old farts will buy them and they will sit in garages with dust covers over them. The new Camaro will not be cheap neither will the Challenger, they will make cheaper models that are slower for the masses.
The SRT Chargers are 40k plus so you can keep them. I think the new GT's are an awesome car for the price and I bet I can make one go real fast pretty easy.

Heck even the 03-04 Cobras where $35K for a coupe. For the $5K you get a better chassis, engine, blower, better quality car, great looks in and out, and if its your thing the Shelby name.

ok ive heard some dumb arguments.....maybe a couple of decent points.....but one question remains.....if ford can shove a 5.4 into a cheap pickup truck then why the hell cant they nut up and put it in a mass produced sports car.....and the arguement that if they did it would slow the sales of mach's or cobras it absolutly retarded.........lets just keep the gt really slow so everyone who can afford a mach or shelby or cobra gets the chance to circle jerk eachother on how much better their cars are while my little cheap {family} performance car continues to get spanked by the old and the upcoming camaroes......im playing devils advocate....i love mustangs........but c'mon....wouldnt it be nice to have a stock gt that stays close to a v-8 maro???????:bash:

The reason Ford still has the mustang at all is because it is cheap. If the base V8 stang was 33K like the GTO they wouldnt sell half as many and it would go by the wayside like the fbodies and GTO because its done too I believe.

Probably the biggest reason Ford hasnt put a 5.4 in the previous mustangs was hood clearance. Most of the 5.4L swaps require a cowl hood, well Ford isnt going to put a cowl hood on a stock car.
If they wanted it to fit under an OEM hood, then they would have to redesign the front end to drop the engine some, which would cost money and raise the price of the car.
I really dont care about only having a 4.6L, it makes desecent power for what it is and the price point it is set at. Most people are pretty happy with 300hp out of a 4.6L, and if not the mod motors love boost.
