I am an Independent Contractor leased on to someone else.

The truck is mine, the trailers and freight I pull are owned by the company I am leased on to.

I hope you have a bunch of say when it comes to your hauls. I had a room mate that drives truck still but would get crappy loads and run him all over the place

That is the difference between being an Owner Operator (like me) and a Lease Purchase Operator (which was probably him)

I have COMPLETE 100% control over what, where, when and how I run.
