the cams are the limiting factor for RPM (and the valves and springs and all that crap). A stock hps... I don't know how well it'll flow but it should easily make it to 5500+. Mine... should be screamin like a raped ape.

My "new" plates are ported to match my intake and heads but the HPS version should come out of the box with the porting done to match any stage 2 ported head. If it's used on a stock head it still shouldn't cause any issues.

Someone's gunna have to buy a stock HPS intake and some plates and try it out on a bone stock PI 5.4. Then we'll have more data. Unfortunately myillwill and I left stock a long way back so our results will be... unique.

that's a 4v. They took a set of R heads and added a cylinder to them, the intake is sorta like the original R with short intake horns into big plenums but the single plenum was ditched in favor of the dual TB/MAF/Plenum setup. They run the car like 2 5cyl engines from a tuning perspective.

MMFF did a story on it a while back. Thing obliterates tires but the 9" rear seems to take the abuse.

EDIT: if we ever get to see a 3v v10 that would be something really interesting for a swap.

the truck/van v10's are 2v. With good cams, solid porting of the heads and a decent short runner intake you could probably make decent power. Problem is there is NO intake for it. You'll have to make one.

perhaps they'll put a de-stroked (read shorter deck) v10 in a commemorative series of mustang with 3v heads one of these days. they've been hinting at keeping the special editions coming.

do they make cams for it??? or no??? i guess it wouldn't be to hard to make an intake... or maybe it isn't the way i think

is the v10 the same deck hight as the 5.4 or the 4.6? and what is the Letter of the motor? anyway, maybe take two adapter plates as the flange and then add short runners with trumpeted tops and then build a box type intake around it that might work lol.

Comp makes cams for v10 2v IIRC. If not they can custom grind one for the same price.

the v10 is a 5.4 plus 2 extra holes.

You really could go about the intake that way but it's a lot of fabrication. It isn't that hard to add a cylinder the plates... you just have to know where it's inserted which will require a head to measure against. With such a design you're not restricted to the angled port design of the adapter plates currently out. You can easily line the runners up to dump at the optimal angle. Injector bosses will have to be welded into each runner close to the plate and you'll have to make a crossover line for coolant and a t-stat housing. You can probably harvest the t-stat housing from a PI intake and tig weld it up to the plates with a layer of epoxy between them like a gasket. Plumb the crossover line to the t-stat housing and then run another crossover between the plates at the rear. You tee that one off the heater hose. Plan on about 400 bucks or so in braided lines and fittings.

hmmm... I have a spare set of plates. Maybe I'll do my own next.

its a killer idea but i dont' think it will be worth the money and effort... or maybe it would... maybe down the road when i have a steady full time job and money coming in... maybe i could get a v10 build it up and hog out the runners of the heads and forge it and then start custom building an intake and exauste to fit the stang... down the road lol... maybe can even start making a KIT lol. Sounds like a plan in about 20 years , but by then they will probably not be any use in doing that lol.

i would make a custom intake and headers and run it as is to see how it did. then slowly build it up.

The new vans are 3V. However, Ford toyed around I think in 04 w/ a Boss 351 04 Mustang which was a 4.6 w/ 2 extra cylinders. I wonder if there's any chance that the new Huricane motor (if it'll ever come out) can be made to swap in.

Reichard seems to be making 3v plates. I read of a guy on the corral that already has his in. Loving it...

So all you 3v guys... mush.

Default Costs?

Hey everyone.

Well ive read about 20 pages so far and everything looks great. Can someone sum up some stuff for me though?

What is the total approx cost of doing a 5.4l (2v)? Where is a good place to find a good 5.4l motor to start with?

How much more would a 5.4l 4v swap be? What kind of power difference are we talking about between 2v and 4v if the 2v would have VT stage 2's and MPH 2.5 or 3 stage heads?

I dont want to spend 2g's on heads/cams for my 4.6 and then drop another 5gs for a kb that will get me 400/400 only to have to spend another 4-5 grand on a forged motor down the line. I would rather spend a little more now and get as close to 400 rwhp/tq as possible and then later on add a blower, maybe.
