Should I turn off traction control and over drive every time I start my 2005 coupe? Then when driving on the highway press over drive on. If this is true, Its a pain. I just bought the car and the guy I bought it from would do this every time he drove the car. you have to remember to press two buttons after starting the car. not the ed of the world but a bit of a pain.

You don't need to mess with overdrive. leave overdrive on, and let the car shift when it wants. if you still think it's going into fifth too much, then you can leave it off.

The traction control thing is up to you. I turn mine off unless i'm going through some pretty twisty roads.

 

umm..just curious, but what is the purpose behind turning the TC and OD off when starting the car? was he afraid of frying some electronics or sumthin'? this is the first time i've heard that before.

 

Turn Trac Control off because with it on if you get in a panic situation, you floor the throttle to get the hell outa the way, the car cuts power - you stay there... big *** truck runs you over - you die.

Its nice to turn it back on in the rain though

OD off because sometimes driving around in OD all the time can wear out the OD band. I'm not sure if it applies to the 05+ Auto, but ask anyone with a RWD Automatic Ford car with 70k - 110k miles what they think of the trans...

I've needed to get moving fast a few times and had my traction control kick in and almost leave me with a smashed car.

 

+1 tc off unless raining leave OD on..

 

Screw that, TC in the rain blows too since if you find yourself fishtailing, you need to use the throtle to get out, even if it means spinning the wheels. However, TC doesn't allow this. And on top of it all, has anyone every experienced at anytime when TC was actually consistent when working?

 

it helped me get off the side of the road when i got stuck in some muddy grass. Without it i couldnt move, with it i was able to pull out and onto the highway. I am leaving mine in working order incase i need it. Granted i have only needed it 3 times the whole time i have owned this car.
