I think I'm just sticking to the 2v swap. Found some cheap heads and having MMR do a stage 3 port and polish as well as getting some other stuff from them at the same time.

If you are running a 5.4 DOHC - get the sullivan intake.

the good thing with most everybody here is that you can build whatever u want (2v,3v,4v) i just did the 2v cus i fell into a motor out of a expidition years ago and located a pair of the adapters. that was all i had to buy. now i want to build a nasty 2v that most ppl don't notice that it is wider then the stock 4.6. if i get time and money i'll build a 4v 5.4 with navi head and a sullivan intake. but until then i want to look like a sleeper till i hit the gas...

Thats what I like about the 5.4 - 95% of people out there will have NO CLUE.

I've got the bare block and my rods in my garage, most of my friends have seen it and none can tell.

I'm hoping that they will be so perplexed over the 3v swap, that no one will even THINK to look to see that its a 5.4

Another thing I was thinking about, but wont you have to change hoods with the 5.4 anyway? May kill the sleeper a little. Cobra R '95 hood for me to keep it from getting too carried away.

i don't know for sure that i want to run a navi head instead of an 01 cobra though...i already have the 01 cobra intake too

i might have to find out what it would cost to get al papito to cut and stretch my 01 intake and turn it into a short runner

yep and in my situation thats what was keeping me from doing a 5.4 but since my car will either need major repairs and a new hood included or i will be getting a roller...a new hood was just a drop in the bucket

a cobra r or cowl hood will keep it hidden alittle. my old one was a little deeper sounding the the 4.6 so it wasn't noticable till that 01 cobra saw me pulling away in 3rd gear...

so you can pull a cobra with the 5.4 2v??? man i think i'm going to love this. I found a guy that is selling a complete 5.4 2v out of an suv. just needs head gaskets since the old ones were weeping or something. 400 plus shipping :P man i'm so happy, all i will need is a set of adapters and someone to mod my prochamber to fit and i'll be strait, till i want to install cams and then start my forged short block

the cobra had cai, flowmasters, off-road h-pipe. and we took it from a 2nd gear kickdown.i had alot of bolt-ons but mine was a npi 5.4, i was slowly pulling away from him thru 3rd.

it was a good win but i believe if the cobra had the proper gearing he would have done alot better, 4v's don't make much low end torque and the 3.27's that came in the 01's wasn't to his advantage

you can pull on stock termies with a nice ported 2v head and cam/intake package.

the 2nd gear drop and go they did kinda negated the gearing faults for the snake... dropping a gear probably shot him to 4000+rpm. At that point it was a straight tq vs. hp battle. I'm a little surprised that he kept pulling up top but that really just makes me happier. On myillwill's homepage is/was a pic of his speedo passing ~160. A thing of beauty.

badii-c is only 16 and when i talked to her she didn't know anything about parts. you would do better to lookup a forum in ausse that u could join and post a wtb for an intake. most 5.4's there are 3v only.

Looked everywhere and called everyone trying to find the 3v Falcon intakes. Either could not get one or was going to have to pay OEM prices

But a real question, which 2v intake should I go with? Thinking Bullitt if I can find one but cheapest I've seen one for is like 650 and figure if one of the others brand new is putting out more hp then I might as well spend a little more cash and get one. Any other intakes putting down proven hp?

Since everyone is wondering on exhaust for the 3V, you could use adpator plates w/o any penalty since 3V heads are narrower than 2V (if you are doing headers) or just cut the flanges off your headers and put ones made for 3V heads on. If you're staying w/ the manifolds, use the 3V pieces since they're better and just have your mid-pipe modified at an exhaust shop.

Head and Main Studs...

What are everyones thoughts on these.
I have ARP head bolts and main studs. the mains came with allen holes in the top to seat them. the head bolts were easier to deal with than studs and there's dowels in the block and heads for alignment so I figured that straight bolts would be fine up top.

hey blitz... I have an windsor head that's already ported. needs a valve job... if you want to pick it up from me I'll cut you a deal. Perhaps only porting 1 head will help your cash outlay.

that's how I'd go. If you have the heads they're definitely worth it. I'd try and get them ported out to the truck specs on the intake runners.

pay oem... it's a good intake and aussie dollars are worth .75 US so you're really gunna take advantage of that difference. Otherwise, ported 2v and a fat cam.

lol i think if you pull on a cobra with a npi 5.4 2v then the torqe is def. better on these cars than hp. lol.

anyway, myillwill....did the npi have a pi intake and cams or was it the npi intake and npi cams? what kinda bolt on's did you have? sorry for all these questions.

I do think i'm going to get a 2v instead of going the 3 or 4v thing.

So do you guys think a 5.4 2v "with a custom cam to take advantage of the added stroke, mild self clean up of the runners on the heads, a stall converter, shift kit, and 4.10's" would be a winner

I already got the mac exaust and big fat back tires on my cobra r's.

I know that the internals can take much so i'm not going to Nitro or force air into it and i'm going to keep my stock shift point of 5500 rpm, that should be fine right? That way i can build up my forged short block and either 200 shot on it or put a vortec.

can anyone help with some cam specs? I have no clue what to go with since these motors need different cams than the 4.6. thanks and again sorry for all the questions. trying to finalize my ideas for this thing

Mitchell

the motor was a npi but it had a pi intake plus: steeda pullies, frpp shorties, bbk-off road x-pipe, c&l plenum and 80mm maf, frpp 70mm tb, 24# injectors, 2 chamber flowmasters, mac cai. this was with the original trans/clutch and rearend. i did have a pro5.0 shifter.

now look at the link below to see what i have on this new one...
